Your impact at MUFG

MBE is strengthening its data quality and governance capabilities to support key regulatory and transformation initiatives. We are looking for a Market Risk Manager, Assistant Vice President (AVP) with a strong analytical background to oversee data quality, reconciliation, and issue management across Market and Liquidity Risk, supporting initiatives such as ECB Readiness and BCBS 239 remediation. The role will help improve data controls, ownership, and operational efficiency across MRM and will act as a Data Steward for the Risk domain.

Function positioning

The MRM function includes supervision of both market risk and liquidity risk within MBE. Reliable, complete and timely data is a key foundation for effective risk management. As regulatory expectations continue to increase, MBE requires strong governance, oversight and control of data used within market and liquidity risk processes.

The MRM team is increasingly involved in resolving data quality, reconciliation and data lineage issues that directly impact risk reporting, stress testing, regulatory submissions and risk management activities. The AVP will play a key role in improving data ownership, strengthening controls, and enhancing data quality across MRM processes and systems.

The MRM team is part of the Risk Management Function which is responsible for:

- Identification, assessment, monitoring and evaluation of all risks in the bank;
- Support and advice in design and deployment of the overall risk management framework, including risk culture, policies, appetite and limits;
- Challenge and escalation of risk and/or control issues to the Management Board.

The Role Includes The Following

- Investigate, analyse and resolve data quality and reconciliation issues impacting market and liquidity risk processes;
- Act as the primary point of contact within MRM for data-related incidents, root cause analysis and remediation activities;
- Develop and maintain data quality controls, monitoring processes and reconciliation frameworks;
- Support BCBS 239 remediation activities, including data lineage documentation, control enhancements and implementation of data governance standards;
- Collaborate with Technology, Data Management Office and business stakeholders to improve data flows, interfaces and data quality processes;
- Support data validation and reconciliation activities and other strategic change initiatives;
- Analyse large datasets to identify data quality trends, inconsistencies and control weaknesses;
- Produce clear and meaningful management information on data quality metrics, issues and remediation progress;
- Support regulatory reviews, internal audits and data-related requests from supervisors;
- Assist in other ad-hoc assignments and projects within the MRM team.

In order to be successful in the role, you will need the following:

- Academic degree in Data Science, Econometrics, Economics, Finance, Statistics, Computer Science or another relevant discipline;
- At least 5 years of experience in banking, financial services, risk management, data management or advisory roles;
- Experience investigating data quality, reconciliation or data governance issues within a financial institution;
- Understanding of data governance principles, data lineage, data controls and BCBS 239 requirements;
- Experience working with market risk, liquidity risk, treasury or finance data is preferred;
- Advanced Excel (VBA), SQL and Python knowledge is preferred;
- Experience analysing large datasets and identifying data quality issues through quantitative techniques;
- Knowledge of banking products and regulatory reporting processes is desirable;
- Fluent English language skills;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail;
- Excellent written communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex issues in a structured and clear manner;
- Team player with the ability to collaborate across business, risk, technology and data functions in a diverse international environment;
- Professional certification such as CFA, FRM or relevant data management qualifications is considered a plus.
