Job Title: QA/QC Manager Data Center Construction Job Description
This role leads quality assurance and quality control activities across all phases of a large-scale data center construction project. The QA/QC Manager ensures that all work is installed in strict accordance with contract documents, approved submittals, manufacturer requirements, commissioning requirements, and client quality standards. You will serve as the primary quality lead on site, driving defect prevention, field inspections, documentation compliance, turnover readiness, and timely issue resolution across civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, and telecom scopes in a mission-critical environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute comprehensive project quality plans that align with contract requirements and client standards.
- Implement and maintain quality processes, inspection programs, and audit routines across all construction phases.
- Lead quality audits and field inspections to verify compliance with drawings, specifications, and approved submittals.
- Identify trends and recurring quality issues, implement corrective and preventive actions, and track their effectiveness.
- Track Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) from identification through closure, ensuring timely resolution.
- Conduct routine site walks with contractors, designers, vendors, and commissioning teams to monitor installation quality.
- Verify that installations comply with design documents, manufacturer requirements, and project specifications.
- Validate testing and inspection activities, including torque verification and installation records, to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Monitor workmanship quality across all trade partners and drive improvements in field execution standards.
- Ensure all quality documentation is complete, accurate, and uploaded into required systems in a timely manner.
- Review inspection reports, test reports, turnover packages, redlines, and as-built documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Verify that closeout and turnover deliverables meet all contract requirements and client expectations.
- Maintain and report on quality metrics, dashboards, and key performance indicators for project leadership.
- Partner with Commissioning and Operations teams to ensure systems are fully ready for acceptance and operational use.
- Participate in pre-functional, functional, and integrated systems testing activities to validate installation and performance.
- Drive punch list creation, management, and closure to support turnover readiness and commissioning milestones.
- Support Operations acceptance reviews and readiness assessments by providing accurate quality and test documentation.
- Work closely with Construction Managers, Project Engineers, Contractors, Commissioning Managers, Design teams, and Operations to align on quality objectives.
- Lead quality-focused meetings, communicate risks and issues to leadership, and ensure timely escalation of critical concerns.
- Escalate quality issues that impact safety, schedule, reliability, or turnover milestones and coordinate corrective actions.
- Produce typical deliverables including quality inspection reports, NCR tracking and closure reports, audit reports, turnover readiness assessments, punch list reports, quality dashboards, testing and inspection documentation reviews, and vendor and contractor quality assessments.
- Continuously improve project quality processes by capturing lessons learned and implementing best practices.
- Support achievement of project quality objectives by minimizing rework, reducing commissioning failures, and enabling on-time turnover.
- Influence field teams to improve workmanship standards and foster a strong quality culture on site.
Essential Skills
- At least 10 years of experience in construction quality, QA/QC, commissioning, or field engineering roles.
- Minimum 5 years of experience supporting mission-critical, industrial, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, or data center projects.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in data center or mission-critical construction quality, including managing quality programs, inspections, audits, and contractor compliance.
- At least 5 years of experience with QA/QC programs, inspections, and documentation management in large-scale construction environments.
- At least 5 years of experience in turnover, startup, and commissioning readiness for complex facilities.
- At least 7 years of experience overseeing installation, testing, and quality verification of mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), controls, and telecommunications systems.
- Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, commissioning processes, and construction quality programs.
- Proven experience with commissioning, turnover readiness, closeout documentation, test reports, and operational acceptance processes.
- Ability to develop and implement project quality plans and inspection programs.
- Demonstrated capability in leading field inspections, quality audits, and non-conformance management.
- Strong skills in reviewing and managing inspection records, test reports, torque logs, redlines, and as-built documentation.
- Experience maintaining quality metrics, dashboards, and key performance indicators for project reporting.
- Ability to drive contractor accountability and corrective actions to resolve quality issues.
- Strong collaboration skills with Construction Managers, Project Engineers, Commissioning Managers, Design teams, and Operations.
- Proven ability to identify and resolve quality issues proactively, minimizing rework and preventing quality escapes.
- Experience working in client, hyperscale, or mission-critical construction environments.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Familiarity with large-scale data center construction environments and mission-critical operational requirements.
- Experience supporting successful turnover of systems to Operations, including readiness assessments and acceptance reviews.
- Ability to influence field teams and improve workmanship standards through coaching and leadership.
- Strong communication skills to lead quality-focused meetings and clearly present risks, findings, and recommendations.
- Demonstrated success in reducing rework, improving NCR closure cycle times, and enhancing documentation completeness.
- Experience managing punch lists, turnover packages, and closeout documentation for complex projects.
- Proven track record of minimizing quality-related schedule impacts and commissioning failures caused by installation deficiencies.
- Ability to drive continuous improvement of project quality processes and implement lessons learned across projects.
Work Environment
This role is based full-time onsite at a data center construction campus in Phoenix, Arizona, within a field-based construction environment. The position requires working primarily on site with limited remote work, closely engaging with construction, commissioning, and operations teams. The environment involves active construction areas with heavy equipment, complex mechanical and electrical systems, and ongoing testing and commissioning activities. You will use standard office and field tools, including a monitor, keyboard, headset, and mouse, along with required safety equipment. Personal protective equipment includes a Class 2 safety helmet, Class 2 or higher safety vest, cut and impact resistant gloves, ANSI Z87.1 or higher safety glasses or visor, and composite toe work boots made of leather or leather alternative that extend at least 4 inches above the ankle (no low-cut or sneaker style). A Class 2 or higher reflective jacket suitable for cold and wet weather is also required. The typical schedule is approximately 40 hours per week, with work driven by project milestones and field activities. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $65.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
