At S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members, and we are committed to transparency in our pay practices. The estimated per hourly range for this position is $22 - 30 per hour based on experience.

The Software Engineer Co-Op is responsible for developing, testing, and debugging software under the guidance of more experienced engineers. They focus on implementing software requirements using .NET C# and related technologies, contributing to the team’s in-house Manufacturing Execution Software (MES) and other enterprise applications. The engineer will work within an integrated development environment, following established processes, toolchains, and workflows. The Software Engineer I continuously learns and develops foundational problem-solving skills while gaining exposure to full-stack development and manufacturing software practices.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Program Development: Assists in writing and debugging .NET C# code in accordance with defined specifications, following direction from senior engineers. Supports implementation of basic features across backend services, MySQL databases, and RESTful APIs, with exposure to Angular-based frontend development. Contributes to simple problem-solving tasks and support within the team’s Manufacturing Execution Software (MES) and related enterprise applications.

- Technology Advancement: Explores new technologies and articles to build a broad foundation understanding of the software engineering environment and industry trends.

- Research & Documentation: Reviews existing documentation to understand requirements, architecture, and workflows. Contributes to basic documentation updates, notes, and development records to support project traceability.

- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Works with senior engineers, project teams, and configuration managers to clarify requirements and ensure alignment with project goals. Communicates progress effectively and asks questions to support task completion and learning. May interact with manufacturing stakeholders and operations teams to understand domain context and system requirements.

- Continuous Learning : Actively learning to understand tools, development environments, products, version control practices, and organization-specific processes. Builds awareness of broader engineering concepts without requiring deep specialization.

- Compliance: Understand and comply with all applicable Company policies and rules.

- MOM System Development: Design, develop, test, and deploy feature enhancements for the Manufacturing Operations Management (MOM) platform across the full technology stack, including database development, backend APIs, and user interface components.

- Application Maintenance & Continuous Improvement: Troubleshoot production issues, perform code refactoring, improve system performance, and support ongoing modernization efforts within enterprise manufacturing applications.

- Industrial IoT & Raspberry Pi Solutions: Configure, image, deploy, and maintain Raspberry Pi devices used in manufacturing environments, including Python development, device integration, and edge computing solutions.

- Hardware Integration & Validation Testing: Assist with hardware wiring, sensor integration, device testing, troubleshooting, and validation activities to ensure reliable operation of shop floor technology and data collection system

To select this job as one of interest to you, at a minimum, you must have the following:

- In-progress degree program from an accredited university/college program with a concentration in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other related field and returning to school full-time after the work session.

- Preliminary skills in effective problem-solving and able to communicate internally.

- Good interpersonal skills to establish meaningful relationships built on mutual trust and respect, and foster collaborative working relationships amongst a diverse audience.

- Great communication skills (written, verbal, listening, and presentation), able to partner with and communicate with customers, both technical and non-technical.

- Commitment to fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the quality function.

- Good organizational planning, coordinating internal and external resources, and juggling key demands.

- Sound business sense and analytical skills with the ability to use and analyze data to drive informed actions, solve complex problems, and drive learning.

- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines, including the flexibility to work extended hours when necessary.

- Basic knowledge in the following or related technologies:

.NET C#

- Relational databases (SQL, MySQL etc)

- RESTful API fundamentals

- Basic frontend technologies (HTML, CSS, Javascript)
