Instrumentation Specialist

Job Title: Instrumentation Specialist Job Description The Instrumentation Specialist plays a key role in supporting engine turbine test cells by installing, calibrating, repairing, and maintaining electronic, electro-mechanical, and mechanical instrumentation. A typical day begins in the office reviewing calibration requirements and assigned projects, then working in pairs as part of a collaborative team to perform calibrations on test cells that monitor pressure, temperature, vibration, and other critical parameters. After an initial training and mentorship period, the role progresses to front-line support that includes analyzing computer software related to test systems and instrumentation performance. Responsibilities

- Start each day by reviewing scheduled calibrations and project assignments, then plan and execute work in collaboration with a team member.
- Install and calibrate specified instrumentation and technical equipment used in engine turbine test cells, including sensors for pressure, temperature, and vibration.
- Operate with minimal supervision while performing calibration, repair, and preventive maintenance on electronic, electro-mechanical, and mechanical instrumentation.
- Disassemble, inspect, clean, repair, calibrate, test, and perform periodic maintenance on specialty equipment, systems, and controls to ensure reliable operation.
- Inspect and evaluate instruments and devices during scheduled maintenance, determine necessary modifications, and carry out complex repairs or overhauls as required.
- Troubleshoot and service instrumentation and control systems during unscheduled work, resolving issues promptly to minimize downtime.
- Record and report abnormal functions or out-of-tolerance conditions in equipment and systems, and initiate corrective actions and documentation in accordance with procedures.
- Apply knowledge of operating and maintenance principles, procedures, and tolerances within the technical area of expertise to ensure accurate and reliable measurements.
- Follow applicable safety procedures and guidelines while working in test cells, production areas, and other facility locations.
- Read and interpret schematic diagrams, specification manuals, and technical documentation to support installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities.
- Communicate technical information clearly and effectively to non-technical personnel, providing explanations of issues, findings, and corrective actions.
- Participate in shift rotation, weekend support, and on-call duties as required to provide continuous support for test facility operations.
- Engage in training and mentorship over a 69 month period to gain proficiency in front-line support activities, including analysis of computer software related to instrumentation and test systems.

Essential Skills

- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in instrumentation, calibration, or closely related technical work.
- Strong electronics knowledge; experience with electronic systems and components is required.
- Hands-on experience with calibration of temperature, pressure, and vibration instrumentation.
- Ability to install, calibrate, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on electronic, electro-mechanical, and mechanical instrumentation.
- Proficiency in reading and working from schematic diagrams, specification manuals, and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of operating and maintenance principles, procedures, and tolerances within the technical area of expertise.
- Knowledge of safety procedures applicable to engineering and test facility activities.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues with instrumentation and control systems during both scheduled and unscheduled work.
- Capability to communicate technical information in a clear and understandable manner to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills for diagnosing equipment issues and evaluating system performance.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment with peers of similar technical standing.
- Willingness to participate in shift rotation, weekend support, and on-call support as needed.

Work Environment This role is based in an engineering full-cycle facility responsible for the design, manufacturing, and testing of aircraft engines. The Instrumentation Specialist will work within the Test Facilities Instrument team, alongside a small, collaborative group of teammates across day and night shifts. The position includes a dedicated workstation and computer, but approximately half of the time is spent on the production floor and in engine test cells. There are six test cells on sitefour small and two largewith some located outdoors, so occasional work outside is required. The standard schedule is typically 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., totaling eight hours per day, with potential participation in shift rotation, weekend support, and on-call duties. The environment emphasizes safety and precision; steel-toed safety boots are required in production areas, and business casual attire is expected elsewhere. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $33.65 - $36.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
