Professor - Construction Management (Open Rank)

The Department of Engineering at Abilene Christian University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position. We are seeking a talented engineer and dedicated follower of Christ who desires the opportunity to shape the next generation of engineers through teaching, mentorship, research, and program-building.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong desire to develop excellence in teaching and provide intentional mentorship to our students. Furthermore, you will be expected to establish a sustainable research or scholarly program that prioritizes the active participation of undergraduate students.

Founded in 2012, the Department of Engineering currently serves approximately 200 students. The engineering program is currently ABET/EAC accredited under “General Engineering” and will be seeking accreditation in Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering in Fall 2027, providing a robust and collaborative academic environment for our expanding Construction Management program.

Applicants with a terminal degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a closely related construction discipline are preferred. In addition, candidates with substantial industry experience and a master's degree who are interested in transitioning to academia are also strongly encouraged to apply.

Typical Duties:

- Teaching Deliver effective instruction across a range of foundational and discipline-specific construction management courses and laboratories.
- Implement evidence-based instructional methods that reflect current best practices in construction and engineering pedagogy.
- Lead the development and execution of experiential learning activities, hands-on instruction, and project-based coursework.
- Collaborate on the continuous improvement of curriculum and facilities to support the program's initial accreditation process.

- Scholarship  Establish a sustainable program of scholarly activity consistent with your expertise and the university’s mission.
- Actively involve undergraduate students in applied research or scholarly projects, providing them with high-impact professional experiences.
- Pursue opportunities for external funding, industry sponsorships, and peer-reviewed dissemination of findings.

- Service  Mentor construction management students in their academic progress, career planning, and professional development.
- Assist the program Chair in building industry partnerships and navigating the program accreditation process.
- Serve as a faculty advisor for student professional organizations and departmental or university committees.

Minimum Qualifications

- Master's or Doctorate degree in construction management, engineering, business, or a closely related construction field.
- Past record of effective communication, teamwork, and planning skills.
- Record of or demonstrated potential for scholarly work.

Preferred Qualifications

- Classroom or laboratory teaching experience at the University level.
- Significant professional field experience in the construction management industry.
- Professional certification or licensure within construction, construction management, or engineering related fields.
- Demonstrated ability to gain research or external project funding for scholarly work.
- Experience with construction software (eg., Primavera, MS Project, Procore, Bluebeam, BIM, etc.)
