Job Description The Screening Research Technician plays a key role in supporting clinical research studies by performing screening procedures, processing biological specimens, and ensuring strict adherence to study protocols, standard operating procedures, and regulatory requirements. This position focuses on accurate specimen handling, vital sign collection, documentation, and coordination with clinical and laboratory teams to ensure the integrity and reliability of study data. Responsibilities

- Review study protocols prior to the initiation of each study to understand all screening and specimen processing requirements.
- Attend protocol training meetings to review specimen processing procedures and confirm the availability of required supplies.
- Coordinate services with any central laboratory involved in the study to ensure timely and accurate processing of samples.
- Perform study procedures, including vital signs and sample collection, in full compliance with study protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Notify the Screening Nurse of any vital sign or laboratory parameter that may exclude a volunteer from participation in a study.
- Complete source documents in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Good Documentation Practice (GDP) standards, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Comply with all relevant SOPs related to clinical research, specimen handling, and documentation.
- Perform quality control checks for laboratory requisitions to verify accuracy and completeness before submission.
- Report events involving damage or loss of samples, spillage incidents, or employee injury, following established incident reporting procedures.
- Record the temperature of all freezers and refrigerators on the appropriate temperature logs on a daily basis to maintain sample integrity.
- Verify that all biohazardous materials are disposed of appropriately and ensure proper labeling and preparation of biohazardous waste for transport.
- Prepare specimens for shipping and adhere to all regulations governing the shipment of biological samples.
- Arrange overnight or express shipping of specimens and maintain accurate and complete shipping documentation.
- Receive and sort all laboratory test results for review by Investigators and clinical staff.
- Ensure that all laboratory results for potential volunteers have been received and reviewed prior to their utilization in a study.
- Perform vital sign measurements for volunteers and study participants as required by study protocols.
- Perform blood collection, vital signs, and other study procedures based on Screening and Clinic scheduling needs.
- Assist the recruitment team when required, supporting volunteer screening and enrollment activities.
- Assist with other duties as assigned to support the smooth operation of the clinical research unit.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Phlebotomy certificate and/or Medical Assistant certificate.
- Minimum of two years of active phlebotomy and laboratory procedures experience.
- Familiarity with clinical research protocols and SOP-driven environments.
- Experience recording and monitoring equipment temperatures, particularly freezers and refrigerators used for specimen storage.
- Knowledge of regulations and best practices for shipping biological samples.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary clinical research setting.

Work Environment This role is based in a clinical research and laboratory setting that focuses on the screening and evaluation of study volunteers. The Screening Research Technician works with biological specimens, including blood samples, and uses equipment such as vital sign monitors, freezers, refrigerators, and shipping materials for biological samples.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
