Job Title: Medical Assistant Pediatric Clinic Job Description
This role offers the opportunity to provide compassionate, high-quality care to pediatric patients in a clinic setting. The medical assistant supports providers with clinical and administrative tasks, ensuring a smooth visit experience for children and their families. Pediatric experience is required due to the clinics training capacity and the specialized nature of the patient population.
Responsibilities
- Take and document patient vital signs accurately for pediatric patients.
- Perform follow-up calls to patients families and guardians as needed.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with parents and guardians regarding care instructions and clinic processes.
- Assist the provider with exam room setup, ensuring all necessary supplies and equipment are prepared before each visit.
- Clean and reset exam rooms as needed to maintain a safe and orderly environment between patient visits.
- Perform point-of-care (POC) testing in accordance with clinic protocols.
- Perform phlebotomy, including blood draws for pediatric patients, following proper safety and comfort procedures.
- Complete medication prior authorizations, coordinating with providers, pharmacies, and insurers to ensure timely access to medications.
- Support overall clinic operations by collaborating with providers and staff to deliver efficient, patient-centered care.
Essential Skills
- Demonstrated experience working with pediatric patients in a clinical setting.
- Proficiency in core medical assisting duties, including taking vital signs and documenting clinical information.
- Skill in performing phlebotomy, including blood draws for children.
- Active RMA (Registered Medical Assistant) or CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) license.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with parents, guardians, and clinical staff.
- Ability to perform point-of-care testing according to established procedures.
- Capability to manage medication prior authorization processes accurately and efficiently.
- High school diploma or GED completed prior to onboarding.

Work Environment
The position is based in an office-based pediatric clinic with a Monday through Friday schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., including a 30-minute lunch break. The environment is collaborative and patient-focused, with medical assistants working closely with providers and other clinical staff to care for children and support their families. Staff use standard medical office equipment and supplies to perform vital signs, point-of-care testing, phlebotomy, and room preparation. Employees become eligible for benefits either on day one or within 30 days, depending on employment structure, and begin accruing paid time off and sick time immediately, which can be used right away. This is a Contract position based out of Knoxville, TN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
