Substation Drafter

Job Title: Substation Drafter Job Description The Substation Drafter will support power delivery and substation design projects within a leading power sector organization that is transforming how electricity is generated, transmitted, and delivered. Working alongside industry-recognized engineers and scientists, this role contributes to the development of reliable, resilient, and sustainable power systems that help communities thrive and industries grow. The position is open to candidates at the drafter level with approximately 14 years of experience and offers the opportunity to work in Phoenix, Tucson, or Albuquerque in a hybrid office/remote arrangement. Responsibilities

- Support the design and drafting of electrical substation projects, ensuring accuracy and consistency with engineering standards and project requirements.
- Prepare and update substation design drawings and documentation for power delivery projects under the guidance of engineering staff.
- Collaborate closely with electrical engineers and substation engineering teams to translate technical concepts and specifications into clear and precise drawings.
- Assist in the development and refinement of substation layouts, single-line diagrams, schematics, and other design documents used in transmission and distribution systems.
- Contribute to power delivery and transmission design projects that support grid modernization and infrastructure improvements.
- Coordinate with project team members to meet deadlines, maintain quality standards, and support project schedules.
- Ensure that all drafting work aligns with established engineering practices, safety considerations, and applicable industry codes.
- Participate in a collaborative, inclusive work culture by sharing ideas, asking questions, and supporting continuous improvement in design processes.

Essential Skills

- 14 years of experience in drafting, with a focus on electrical substation design or closely related power delivery projects.
- Hands-on experience with substation design and substation engineering work.
- Background in electrical engineering or electrical design for power delivery systems.
- Previous experience in transmission and distribution (T&D/TDP) and power projects.
- Ability to work effectively with engineering teams to interpret and apply technical specifications in design drawings.
- Capability to commute and work from an office in Phoenix, Tucson, or Albuquerque 2 to 3 times per week.

Work Environment The role is based in a professional office setting in Phoenix, Tucson, or Albuquerque, with a hybrid work model that allows working remotely 2 to 3 days per week and onsite in the office the remaining days. Team members work closely with experienced engineers and scientists in the power sector, focusing on substation and power delivery projects that support grid modernization and infrastructure development. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Phoenix, AZ.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $50.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
