Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Portfolio Manager to join AIMCo’s Public Equities team. Reporting to the Managing Director, Portfolio Construction, Public Equities, this role will help advance portfolio construction capabilities across the Public Equities asset class, which spans index, fundamental, and systematic equity strategies, alongside a portable alpha program implemented through both internal strategies and external hedge fund managers. In this role, you will translate investment insights, client objectives, and risk considerations into disciplined portfolio design.

Working closely with Active Equities Portfolio Managers, Quantitative Researchers and Investment Risk Managers, the Portfolio Manager will drive capital allocation and risk budgeting decisions across equity and absolute return strategies, ensuring recommendations are aligned with client mandates and AIMCo’s investment philosophy.

Responsibilities Include:

- Support the Managing Director, Portfolio Construction in developing and implementing portfolio construction frameworks across Public Equities, including factor exposures, risk budgeting, capital allocation, tail hedging and portfolio optimization across strategies.
- Design, implement, and monitor portable alpha and alpha-beta separation structures, including derivatives overlays implemented through index futures, total return swaps and options.
- Conduct portfolio diagnostics, including performance attribution, position sizing, active risk, factor exposure, liquidity, drawdown, hedge efficiency, and scenario analyses.
- Partner with portfolio managers, research teams, risk managers and external partners to incorporate security-level insights into portfolio-level decisions.
- Contribute to the consistent application of portfolio construction principles across equity and absolute return strategies, including fundamental, regional, sector-focused, and other internally managed strategies.
- Support the development and enhancement of portfolio construction tools, analytics, reporting, governance processes, and documentation standards.
- Provide constructive challenge and evidence-based recommendations to improve portfolio design, implementation, and risk-adjusted alpha outcomes.
- Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, analytical honesty, and disciplined investment decision-making.

Required:

- 10+ years of institutional investment experience, with meaningful exposure to public equities portfolio construction, asset allocation, portfolio strategy, quantitative research, or multi-strategy equity portfolios.
- Strong understanding of global equity markets, investment styles, macroeconomic drivers, factor investing, portfolio optimization, and risk modeling.
- Demonstrated ability to apply portfolio construction techniques across both internally managed and externally managed strategies.
- Experience using portfolio analytics, attribution, scenario analysis, and risk diagnostics to inform investment recommendations and portfolio implementation.
- Ability to collaborate across portfolio management, research, risk, and analytics functions in a complex institutional environment, including engagement with external partners.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present clear, evidence-based recommendations and contribute to robust investment debate.
- High degree of judgment, integrity, intellectual curiosity, humility, and professionalism, with comfort operating in a visible, collaborative investment role.
- undefined

Preferred:

- Direct experience with portable alpha structures, including the use of derivatives overlays.
- Familiarity with quantitative/systematic strategy development or implementation (e.g., factor models, signal research).
- Advanced degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field; CFA or equivalent designation.
- Familiarity with AI and LLM tooling applied to investment workflows (including agentic workflows that automate research, analytics, or reporting), and interest in helping build that capability within the team.
