About this role

This role is the deputy leader for Money Operations Innovation & Control. You take direct, hands-on ownership across all three pillars of the function: Embedded Controls (Quality, Monitoring, and Regulatory Complaints), Business Process Management, and Ops Analytics — stepping in as the acting leader when needed and representing the function in rooms its leader isn't in.

The ideal candidate brings the same blend of builder mindset and protective intuition the function itself is built on: comfortable leveraging automation, AI, and outsourcing strategies to scale safely through rapid growth, and equally comfortable running a multidisciplinary team's operating rhythm without needing to be told what to do next.

Responsibilities

Deputy Leadership

- Act as the stand-in leader for the function in the function leader's absence and in leadership or cross-functional forums, representing its priorities and constraints credibly without needing to check in first.
- Directly lead, coach, and develop the function's team across Quality, Monitoring, Complaints, and Analytics — translating strategy into daily execution.
- Own the operating rhythm — huddles, performance tracking, roadmap follow-through — that keeps the team running whether or not its leader is in the room.
- Foster a culture that treats risk management and data analytics as enablers of rapid innovation, not blockers.

Cross-Functional Partnership

- Partner with Legal, Compliance, Risk, Product, and Engineering as the day-to-day operational owner of the function's commitments.
- Support operational readiness for new product and feature launches, ensuring controls, disputes-adjacent processes, and reporting are in place before go-live.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience

- Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations Management, Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- 8–12 years of progressive leadership experience in operations, risk/controls, or business analytics — ideally in a fast-paced fintech, neobank, or modern financial services environment.
- Experience establishing internal controls, quality programs, or regulatory tracking/remediation directly inside an operations department.
- Hands-on Business Process Management experience, including automation/AI and managing scaled third-party vendor operations.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team spanning multiple disciplines (controls, process design, analytics), running day-to-day team leadership independently.
- Comfort operating as a deputy or second-in-command: able to represent a leader's priorities credibly in their absence, without waiting for sign-off on every call.
- Strong analytical fluency — comfortable building and reading KPI dashboards and operational reporting.
- Proven track record of operating with senior-leader-level autonomy and judgment.

Preferred

- Direct experience in regulatory complaints management (CFPB, state AG) specifically.
- Familiarity with case management/CRM and complaint-management systems.
- Experience with predictive or forecasting analytics used for operational resource planning.
- Exposure to process improvement frameworks (Lean, Six Sigma).

Competencies

- Builder mindset paired with protective intuition.
- High judgment and integrity; trusted to operate with significant autonomy.
- Ability to translate strategy into execution and hold a multidisciplinary team accountable to it.
- Calm, credible operator in high-visibility, regulator-facing, or executive-facing situations.
- Bias toward improving the system, not just running it.
