PAYROLL & BENEFITS SPECIALIST
Our client is a fast-growing, dynamic, and well-established Oregon-based distributor and internet fulfillment provider of consumer products. They are looking for an analytical, service-oriented expert to take ownership of their multi-state payroll and benefits programs for a thriving workforce of over 150 employees. Salary: Up to $78K for well-qualified candidates

Schedule: Full-time (based in the Portland, OR area) with up to 30% travel in the first year to visit out-of-state locations.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Master the Payroll Cycle: Process and validate full-cycle payroll across affiliated companies and up to 13 states, including regular and off-cycle runs, commissions, taxes, garnishments, and final pay. Champion Benefits Administration: Manage enrollments, changes, and terminations for medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and HSA programs. Lead annual open enrollment and handle carrier billing audits. Ensure Compliance & Accuracy: Reconcile payroll registers, general ledger reports, tax liabilities, and retirement contributions. Stay ahead of multi-state withholding, unemployment, and wage-and-hour laws. Be the Go-To Resource: Serve as the confidential, knowledgeable first point of contact for employees regarding pay, timekeeping, taxes, and benefits. Optimize HR Systems: Maintain HRIS user access, workflows, forms, and reporting platforms, while driving continuous process improvements.
QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES: The Experience: At least 3–5 years of full-cycle payroll and benefits experience supporting multiple legal entities (150+ employees) across multiple states. The Tech Skills: Deep experience with HRIS platforms (ADP Workforce Now and Dayforce are highly preferred) and intermediate-to-advanced Microsoft Excel skills. The Brainpower: Strong math skills to calculate gross-to-net pay, taxes, deductions, and retroactive payments. The Mindset: Absolute discretion with confidential data, stellar deadline management, and excellent communication skills. The Credentials: An Associate’s degree or higher in HR, Accounting, Finance, or Business. FPC, CPP, or CEBS certifications are a major plus! The Logistics: A valid driver's license and the ability to travel by air (up to 30% of the time).
