The Department of Parks & Recreation is seeking temporary part-time Recreation Assistants for exciting, unique programs and events throughout the County. Examples of programs include elementary break camp days, skate nights, special events throughout the year, and middle school after-school programs.

RECREATION ASSISTANT II – AfterSchool Program Staff, Evening/Weekend Program Staff ($18.00 Hourly)
Responsible for planning, implementation, and facilitation of recreation programs and events; completing participant and program evaluations; and administrative duties.
Minimum requirements: Some experience administering recreation programs or working with youth.
RECREATION ASSISTANT III – AfterSchool Program Assistant Director ($20.08 Hourly)
Responsible for assisting with supervisory and administrative duties, including planning, managing & facilitating recreation activities, and processing participant, staff/volunteers, and program evaluations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school/GED/Equivalent; plus
- Some experience administering recreation programs.
Substitution: Completion of some college coursework may substitute for the experience requirement.
Desirables: Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:
- CPR, AED, and First Aid Certifications;
- Experience working with youth in a recreation setting;
- Experience working with diverse populations;
- Experience or willingness to work with individuals with disabilities; and
- Bilingual in English/Spanish.
Special Requirements
If selected, staff may be required to:
- Agree to a criminal background check.
- Provide references and/or supporting documentation to verify work/school experience prior to an offer of employment.
- Some positions require a driver license and driving history record check.
- Provide personal care of participants (training provided).
- Some positions require possession of First Aid/CPR/AED Certification or obtain within 60 days of hire.
- Arlington County requires that all employees have a bank account to accept direct payroll deposits.
Additional Information
Work Hours: Multiple positions are available. Positions vary in days and hours:
Recreation Assistant II (evening/weekend positions): up to twenty (20) hours per week schedule, including evenings and weekends depending upon scheduled events.
Recreation Assistant II and III (Teen AfterSchool Program Positions): twenty (20) to thirty-five (35) hours per week schedule Monday-Friday and one Saturday evening per month.
May be required to work in various DPR locations in Arlington.
