About this role

The Facilities Design and Construction Bureau of the Department of Environmental Services (DES) is seeking a motivated Facilities Project Specialist (Transit) to manage capital improvements such as bus operations and maintenance facilities, transit stations, and WMATA Metrorail elevator and tunnel entrances. This position will manage the design, construction, and renovation of new County and WMATA transit facilities from conceptualization through project turnover and warranty periods, including all phases of design-build procurement and contract administration.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Project Management, or a related field; and
- Significant and progressively responsible experience in project management and administration as a facilities engineer or construction project manager, or in a related field.

Substitution(s): Additional directly related experience can substitute for the education requirements on a year-for-year basis.

Desirable Qualifications: Preference may be given to applicants with experience in one or more of the following:

- Managing the work of designers, construction managers, and contractors;
- Managing the design and construction of WMATA facilities and transportation-related projects, including new construction and renovations;
- Using project management and scheduling technologies;
- Working with local, state, and/or federal transit agencies, such as the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT), and Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA); and/or
- Managing construction claims and dispute resolution.

Desirable Certifications:

- Registered as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Virginia or a state with reciprocity;
- Registered as an Architect in Virginia or a state with reciprocity;
- Project Management Professional; and/or
- Certified Construction Manager (CCM).

Special Requirements

Background Check: A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted. It will include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You will be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.

Driver's License: Applicant must possess, or obtain by time of appointment, a valid driver’s license, and must provide or authorize Arlington County to obtain a copy of official driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent upon favorable review of the applicant’s driving record. Alternatively, the applicant must have the ability and willingness to use alternative methods of transportation to perform assigned duties and responsibilities at locations other than the primary worksite.

Additional Information

Work Hours: Monday through Friday, between 8 am to 5 pm, with a flexible work schedule. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required. Telework opportunities are available with prior approval from the supervisor.
