Job Title: EHS Specialist Job Description
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for ensuring compliance with all state and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations. This role involves conducting regular inspections, implementing and maintaining safety programs, training employees on safety procedures, and investigating and reporting any accidents or incidents. Additionally, the EHS Specialist plays a key role in emergency response planning, disaster recovery, and sustainability initiatives, such as reducing a company's carbon footprint or implementing recycling programs.
Responsibilities
- Assist in planning and coordinating Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) and occupational safety programs.
- Participate in program development and implementation, including accident prevention, investigation, safety education, analysis, and reporting.
- Coordinate occupational health and safety activities, providing training and increasing awareness of health and safety requirements.
- Develop technical and promotional materials to enhance environmental, health, and safety awareness.
- Monitor the use of chemicals and hazardous materials, ensuring appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and promoting environmental compliance.
- Oversee the disposal of hazardous waste, including biological, chemical, and medical waste materials.
- Conduct inspections of laboratories and facilities to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Monitor environmental factors to ensure the health and safety of students, faculty, and staff.
- Measure exposure to environmental hazards and provide education and training in safe work practices.
- Schedule and conduct evaluations and inspections to ensure compliance and identify hazards.
- Conduct research and analysis, preparing reports using statistical and historical data.
- Participate in the application and update of related programs, plans, and procedures.
- Serve as a point of contact with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
- Assist in maintaining the Environmental, Health, and Safety website.
- Provide recommendations for purchasing equipment, materials, and supplies.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in Safety, EHS, OSHA, Health & Safety, and Environmental Health.
- Experience with OSHA 30 and OSHA 10 certifications.
- Strong communication and people skills.
- Proficient in Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Management.
- Knowledge of OSHA & Regulatory Compliance.
- Experience in Safety Training & Employee Education.
- Proficiency in Incident Investigation and Hazardous Materials Management.
- Experience in Environmental Compliance and Hazardous Waste Management.
- Experience with Inspection and Environmental Health and Safety in a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of Industrial Hygiene.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Preferred Associates or Bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health, environmental science, engineering, or related field.
- Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
- Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Job Type & Location
This is a Permanent position based out of Springfield, KY.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $55000.00 - $80000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
