Basic Job Functions:
The role of the Maintenance Engineer includes, but is not limited to, providing support to all teams, technical support for maintenance and operations, designing and troubleshooting mechanical components and systems, performing mechanical load ratings of various systems, designing and troubleshooting hydraulic and pneumatic systems, designing and troubleshooting fluid power systems, capital project management including accounting for expenses and help with CEA’s, and assisting with setup of preventative and predictive maintenance programs by applying engineering principles and practices and demonstrating a high level of project management leadership. This role also supports CM2 Cold Rolling operations and the Galvanizing line furnace and coating equipment, ensuring reliability, performance, and continuous improvement of thermal and process systems of all lines.

- Design and implement new systems and modify existing equipment.
- Improve production and maintenance processes, keeping accurate documentation for all continuous improvements.
- Provide technical expertise on mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Monitor and optimize furnace temperature profiles, combustion/heating systems, and zinc pot performance for consistent coating quality.
- Perform failure analysis/troubleshooting on mechanical systems and furnace faults, overheating, or uneven heating; recommend and implement corrective upgrades.
- Lead or support planned preventative maintenance, calibration, and compliance testing (e.g., thermocouple management, instrument calibration certificates).
- Manage capital projects, including furnace rebuild, reline, or improvement projects, from scope through commissioning.
- Collaborate with other departments or teams.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from accredited program
- Minimum of five (5) years of engineering experience in a sheet steel manufacturing environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience maintaining and supporting equipment in a steel mill or heavy industrial setting.
- Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Inventor) and reading technical print/drawings.
- Proven ability to monitor and continue developing a preventive and predictive maintenance system.
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring ability.
- Experience carrying out continuous improvement projects from start to finish.
- Experience with hydraulic/pneumatic systems. Troubleshooting and design.
- Experience with industrial furnaces, thermal processing, or galvanizing/coating operations.
- Experience with PLC/SCADA systems, combustion controls, or thermal modeling tools (ANSYS, COMSOL, etc.).
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Planner, etc.
