Basic Job Functions:

Nucor Data Systems is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Maintenance Technician. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and general maintenance of production equipment, machinery, building systems, and facility equipment. This position plays an important role in supporting safe and reliable plant operations by identifying equipment issues, completing repairs in a timely manner, and helping minimize production downtime.

Job Description

- Perform routine and extensive preventive maintenance and repair of production machinery, facility equipment, and building systems.

- Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment to identify problems, minimize downtime, and maximize equipment reliability and uptime.

- Perform maintenance and repairs by following diagrams, schematics, sketches, operating manuals, manufacturer instructions, and engineering specifications.

- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, including equipment inspections, lubrication, adjustments, replacement of worn components, and other routine maintenance activities.

- Locate sources of mechanical and electrical problems by observing equipment in operation, listening for unusual sounds, inspecting components, and using appropriate measuring and testing instruments.

- Remove and replace defective or worn parts by dismantling machinery and equipment using appropriate hand tools, power tools, hoists, cranes, and other equipment.

- Adjust functional parts of machinery, equipment, and control systems using appropriate tools and measuring devices.

- Diagnose equipment failures and determine appropriate repair methods.

- Assist with the installation, modification, relocation, and startup of machinery and production equipment.

- Perform repairs involving mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems as appropriate based on training and qualifications.

- Troubleshoot electrical controls, circuits, motors, sensors, switches, panels, and other electrical components within the technician's training and authorization.

- Work safely around electrical systems and equipment and follow applicable electrical safety and Lockout/Tagout procedures.

- Maintain production and quality by helping ensure machinery and mechanical equipment remain in safe and reliable operating condition.

- Inspect machinery, equipment, and facility systems to identify necessary repairs, maintenance, or improvements.

- Respond to equipment breakdowns and maintenance requests in a timely manner.

- Communicate equipment conditions, repairs, downtime, and maintenance needs to the Maintenance Supervisor, Production Supervisors, Leads, and other appropriate teammates.

- Coordinate maintenance activities with Production to minimize disruption to operations whenever possible.

- Document completed preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections, equipment issues, parts used, and other required maintenance activities.

- Maintain continuity between shifts and work teams by clearly communicating completed work, outstanding repairs, equipment irregularities, and continuing maintenance needs.

- Assist with maintaining maintenance parts, tools, equipment, and supply inventories and notify supervision when replacement parts or supplies are needed.

- Maintain maintenance tools and equipment in safe and proper working condition.

- Follow all applicable company safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment (PPE).

- Follow Lockout/Tagout and other applicable energy-control procedures before servicing or maintaining equipment.

- Maintain clean and orderly maintenance and work areas and support company housekeeping standards.

- Identify potential equipment reliability, safety, or process improvements and communicate recommendations to supervision.

- Assist other maintenance teammates with troubleshooting, repairs, installations, and preventive maintenance as needed.

- Provide maintenance-related information and technical assistance to teammates when appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Minimum of 2 years of industrial maintenance, mechanical maintenance, or similar experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.

- Working knowledge of mechanical equipment, preventive maintenance practices, and troubleshooting procedures.

- Ability to read and understand equipment manuals, diagrams, schematics, drawings, and manufacturer instructions.

- Experience using hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments, and maintenance-related equipment.

- Basic knowledge of industrial electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.

- Ability to troubleshoot equipment problems and determine appropriate corrective actions.

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a maintenance and production team.

- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, leads, teammates, and other departments.

- Ability and willingness to follow established safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout requirements.

- Ability to maintain accurate maintenance and repair documentation.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Technical certificate, associate degree, or equivalent training in Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Technology, Mechanical Technology, Mechatronics, or a related field.

- Previous maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

- Experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial production equipment.

- Knowledge of industrial electrical controls, motors, sensors, circuits, and control panels.

- Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems.

- Experience with preventive maintenance programs or computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).

- Welding or fabrication experience.

- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
