Job Title: Certified Medical Research Assistant Job Description
This role combines direct patient care, front office coordination, and support for medical research activities within a hospital-based environment. The Certified Medical Research Assistant greets and assists patients and visitors, manages communication and administrative tasks, supports financial and billing processes, and helps ensure safe and efficient clinical operations through sterile processing and patient care skills. Responsibilities
- Receive and direct all communication courteously and consistently, ensuring phone calls are answered promptly and routed appropriately.
- Adhere to HIPAA guidelines and all office policies when handling patient information and communication.
- Greet patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner, maintaining a friendly demeanor by smiling, making direct eye contact, and helping them feel welcome and important.
- Assist patients with the sign-in process and respond promptly to patient needs throughout their visit.
- Support financial responsibilities by staying current on reimbursement and billing procedures, accurately verifying information on audit journals, preparing bank deposits and credit card batches, and signing and dating completed daily cash receipts.
- Monitor general office supply inventory and equipment, collaborating with team members to determine and fulfill their supply needs.
- Perform patient care and medical assisting duties, including tasks such as blood draws and oncology-related phlebotomy as needed and within scope of practice.
- Apply sterile processing knowledge, including decontamination, instrumentation handling, tray assembly, and sterilization procedures, to support safe clinical operations.
- Collaborate closely with clinical and research staff to support ongoing medical research activities and ensure high-quality patient care.
- Demonstrate flexibility by learning quickly and adapting to changing patient needs and clinical priorities.
- Exhibit a strong sense of accountability for improving the lives of patients and their caregivers, maintaining a high standard of care and service.

Essential Skills
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential.
- Minimum of 1+ year of relevant experience, or a strong hospital externship in lieu of experience.
- Experience in both patient care and front office operations, including scheduling, patient intake, and reception duties.
- Proficiency in blood draw and phlebotomy, preferably with oncology experience.
- Knowledge of sterile processing, including decontamination, instrumentation, sterilization, tray assembly, and related workflows.
- Familiarity with sterile processing certifications such as CRCST and CBSPD.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA guidelines and ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
- Ability to handle reimbursement and billing procedures, including verification of financial information, audit journals, and daily cash receipts.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for interacting with patients, visitors, and team members.
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing patient needs and clinical environments.
- Strong sense of accountability and commitment to improving patient and caregiver experiences.

- High school diploma or equivalent.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Oncology phlebotomy experience is a strong nice-to-have and highly valued.

- Background in medical assisting and patient care within hospital or clinical settings.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $47840.00 - $58240.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
