Job Title: Health, Safety and Environment Advisor Job Description The Health, Safety and Environment Advisor plays a key role in supporting workplace health, safety, and environmental initiatives across active construction and power generation job sites. This position is primarily based at the Connect 6ix project site in Toronto, with opportunities to contribute to additional projects in sectors such as nuclear, utilities, and ICI construction. Working closely with field personnel and leadership teams, the advisor helps maintain safe working conditions, ensures compliance with regulatory and client requirements, and promotes a strong safety culture through site visits, coaching, training, and risk management activities. Responsibilities
- Conduct regular site visits to identify hazards, assess risks, and verify that safe work practices are being followed.
- Ensure compliance with applicable health and safety legislation, corporate safety programs, client standards, and industry best practices.
- Guide field staff in completing hazard assessments, safe work plans, permits, and other required safety documentation.
- Participate in incident, near miss, and hazard investigations, helping to identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive measures.
- Deliver and support safety meetings, orientations, and training sessions for employees and contractors.
- Track and maintain safety records, including inspections, observations, investigations, and corrective actions.
- Monitor the proper use and condition of personal protective equipment and promptly address any deficiencies.
- Communicate identified risks and safety concerns to site management and health and safety leadership.
- Support behavioural safety initiatives through field observations, worker engagement, and coaching activities.
- Recommend opportunities to strengthen safety practices and improve overall safety program effectiveness.
- Assist with emergency response planning, preparedness activities, and site emergency drills.
- Foster strong safety awareness by building positive relationships with employees, supervisors, subcontractors, and unionized personnel, and by promoting accountability for safe work practices.
- Collaborate with personnel from multiple companies on the job site to ensure operations are conducted safely and in alignment with shared safety expectations.
- Contribute to safety support for a diverse portfolio of projects, including nuclear facilities, transmission line work, civil construction, and major infrastructure initiatives as needed.
Essential Skills
- Demonstrated experience in construction site safety, with a strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental practices in field environments.
- Working knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Practical experience with Working at Heights safety requirements.
- Knowledge of WHMIS and the ability to apply it in the field.
- Experience in power generation, nuclear, utilities, or ICI construction environments.
- Ability to conduct hazard assessments, develop safe work plans, and manage permits and safety documentation.
- Strong incident investigation skills, including root cause analysis and development of corrective actions.
- Ability to deliver safety meetings, orientations, and training sessions to diverse groups of workers and contractors.
- Competence in tracking and maintaining safety records, including inspections, observations, investigations, and corrective actions.
- Skill in monitoring and enforcing the proper use of personal protective equipment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with field staff, supervisors, subcontractors, and unionized workers.
- Capability to support behavioural safety initiatives through observation, coaching, and worker engagement.
- Nuclear clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain nuclear clearance for work at nuclear facilities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- NCSO, GSC-CSC, or CRST designation.
- Familiarity with ISO standards related to health, safety, and quality management.
- Experience working on projects in nuclear, ICI, electrical, utilities, or major infrastructure sectors.
- Comfort working within smaller, close-knit teams with direct access to leadership for mentorship and development.
- Ability to occasionally travel to sites
- Strong relationship-building skills and a collaborative approach to working with multi-disciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
Work Environment The standard schedule is Monday to Friday, with 8.5-hour days including lunch

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Oshawa, ON.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $43.00 - $55.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
