Job Title: Production Manager (Sheet Metal & Plate Fabrication)

Schedule: Monday – Friday: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Compensation: $100,000 – $150,000 per year (Commensurate with experience) + Health Insurance & Paid Time Off

We are partnering with a long-established, premier sheet metal and heavy plate fabrication facility located in the Middle Village, Queens area. Equipped with advanced metalworking technology and automated production systems, this high-volume manufacturing operation specializes in high-precision custom fabrication, structural metalwork, and specialized component manufacturing for demanding commercial and industrial applications.
Position Summary
We are seeking a results-driven, hands-on Production Manager to oversee day-to-day shop floor operations and directly lead a team of 25 to 30 skilled metal fabricators, welders, and machine operators. The ideal candidate brings deep, practical expertise in sheet metal and plate fabrication, strong mechanical blueprint reading, and proven leadership in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will be responsible for maximizing shop efficiency, meeting strict delivery schedules, maintaining quality control, and driving continuous improvement across all production workflows.
Key Responsibilities
Shop Floor Leadership: Directly supervise, direct, and motivate a shop floor team of 25–30 fabrication personnel, including welders, press brake operators, CNC technicians, and assemblers.
Production Scheduling: Manage workflow, job routing, and machine allocation to consistently meet tight client delivery dates and maintain peak shop productivity.
Hands-On Quality & Efficiency: Enforce strict quality control standards, company safety rules, and operational procedures while optimizing manufacturing methods to reduce scrap and downtime.
Blueprint & Technical Review: Analyze complex mechanical drawings, architectural blueprints, and CAD schematics to methodize production sequences and guide shop personnel.
Process Optimization: Partner with CNC programmers and department leads to streamline punching, forming, welding, and assembly processes.
Resource & Equipment Management: Monitor material flow, oversee machine maintenance schedules, and ensure all shop equipment is operated safely and efficiently.
Qualifications & Requirements
Fabrication Expertise: Extensive, hands-on background in sheet metal and heavy plate fabrication, including deep familiarity with MIG/TIG Welding , CNC Punching , Brake Forming , and Final Mechanical Assembly .
Management Experience: 5+ years of supervisory or managerial experience running a sheet metal/metal fabrication shop floor.
Technical Skills: Comprehensive understanding of complex mechanical blueprints, shop drawings, and weld symbols. Hands-on familiarity with AutoCAD and CNC programming concepts is strongly preferred.
Leadership Capabilities: Proven ability to command respect on the shop floor, mentor trade personnel, maintain discipline, and cultivate a culture of accountability and safety.
Work Ethic: Highly organized, proactive problem solver comfortable maintaining a physical presence on the shop floor throughout a 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM shift.
Compensation / Pay Rate (Up to): $100,000.00 - $150,000.00
