About this role
Job Title: Process Engineer Job Description
This Process Engineer role focuses on developing and executing process designs for LNG and Power projects within an EPC environment, with a strong emphasis on FEED and detailed design. The position involves leading process simulations, sizing and specifying major equipment, supporting procurement and construction activities, and providing technical support through commissioning and startup. The ideal candidate brings extensive LNG or Power project experience, strong cryogenic process knowledge, and a practical, hands-on approach to supporting both office and site-based activities.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute process design deliverables for LNG and Power projects, including design basis documents, process flow diagrams (PFDs), heat and material balances (HMB), P&IDs, and process datasheets.
- Perform process simulations and mass and energy balances using Aspen HYSYS or equivalent tools, and validate the accuracy and consistency of results.
- Work with other engineering discipline specialists to define and size major equipment such as heat exchangers, vaporizers, cryogenic columns, compressors, and pumps, and prepare detailed vendor specifications and technical evaluations.
- Support technical bid evaluations, scope reviews, and constructability reviews during procurement and construction phases to ensure alignment with project requirements and best practices.
- Provide technical support during detailed design, commissioning, and startup, including troubleshooting process issues on site and recommending practical solutions.
- Ensure compliance with LNG industry codes and standards, HSE requirements, and client specifications throughout all phases of the project.
- Coordinate closely with multi-discipline engineering teams, including mechanical, piping, civil, electrical, and controls, as well as with vendors and contractors to ensure integrated, high-quality deliverables.
- Mentor early career engineers by reviewing their work, sharing technical knowledge, and promoting practical, production-oriented engineering solutions.
- Contribute to project controls by maintaining schedule awareness and supporting cost-conscious design decisions where applicable.
- Prepare and review engineering documentation and drawings, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and alignment with project objectives.
Essential Skills
- Bachelors degree in chemical engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 10 years of engineering experience with LNG or Power projects in an EPC environment, preferably including FEED and detailed design.
- Strong experience in process engineering for LNG, refinery, or related process facilities.
- Proficiency with process simulation tools, with Aspen HYSYS strongly preferred.
- Ability to perform and validate mass and energy balances for complex process systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the review of engineering drawings and documents.
- Strong knowledge of cryogenic process technologies and two-phase flow behavior.
- In-depth understanding of LNG-specific equipment such as vaporizers, cryogenic columns, compressors, pumps, and heat exchangers.
- Practical, hands-on approach with a willingness to support site activities, including troubleshooting and commissioning support.
- Excellent communication skills, including clear technical writing and effective documentation.
- Strong team coordination skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple engineering disciplines and external stakeholders.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Masters degree in chemical engineering or a related field.
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Texas (highly preferred).
- Experience working on FEED and pre-FEED phases for LNG or Power projects.
- Experience in an EPC project environment with a focus on process engineering for LNG or Power facilities.
- Familiarity with API, NFPA, and international LNG standards.
- Experience with project controls, including schedule awareness and cost-conscious design practices.
- Previous experience on Houston-based EPC projects and familiarity with Gulf Coast logistics and permitting processes.
- Ability to mentor and guide early career engineers in process engineering best practices.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing multiple deliverables and deadlines.
