About this role

Hunton Services, a division of the Hunton Group, is seeking a Rental Power Supervisor to oversee the daily leadership, maintenance, readiness, deployment, and field support of its rental power generation fleet. This position leads Power Field Technicians, Power Shop Technicians, and Power Utility Technicians while ensuring generators and associated electrical equipment are inspected, maintained, tested, and prepared for reliable customer use.

Responsibilities

- Provide daily leadership and direction to Power Technicians and Utility Technicians, communicating work priorities, project requirements, and safety expectations.

- Coordinate with Operations to support technician assignments, manpower needs, equipment availability, dispatch priorities, delivery and pickup requirements, and project schedules.

- Monitor technician productivity, workmanship, documentation, and job completion; provide technical coaching and hands-on training.

- Identify training needs and assist management with performance evaluations, development plans, recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and skills assessments.

- Oversee inspection, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and testing of diesel and natural-gas generators and associated rental power equipment.

- Maintain fleet readiness for portable, towable, and large mobile generators, load banks, automatic transfer switches, transformers, distribution panels, breakers, disconnects, cables, cable ramps, cam-lock equipment, spider boxes, fuel systems, battery chargers, and generator controls.

- Establish and maintain equipment check-in and check-out standards, ensuring that the equipment is clean, properly labeled, inspected, tested, fueled as required, and documented before dispatch.

- Prioritize repairs based on fleet demand and upcoming projects; coordinate parts, major repairs, warranty work, and outside vendor support as needed.

- Provide technical oversight for engine, alternator, fuel, cooling, battery, charging, emissions, voltage regulation, breaker, control, and communication-system diagnostics.

- Review technician findings, determine appropriate repair actions, maintain equipment service history, and escalate major failures to technical or fleet leadership.

- Support temporary power projects from preparation through installation, startup, commissioning, service, and decommissioning.

- Review generator capacity, voltage, phase, frequency, load requirements, cable sizing and quantities, distribution equipment, breaker protection, transformers, grounding, fuel needs, redundancy, equipment placement, and site access.

- Verify temporary power configurations are appropriate for the application and coordinate review by qualified engineering personnel when required.

- Confirm equipment and accessories are prepared before dispatch and provide field leadership during complex or high-risk deployments.

- Ensure installations follow company procedures, manufacturer requirements, project specifications, and applicable safety requirements.

- Oversee startup and commissioning inspections, including fluid levels, batteries, fuel systems, controls, voltage, frequency, phase rotation, breakers, grounding, cables, and connections.

- Verify operational testing, required load-bank testing, alarm and shutdown checks, commissioning documentation, and customer operating orientation are completed before equipment enters service.

- Provide remote and on-site technical support for equipment failures, alarms, shutdowns, electrical distribution problems, and customer operating concerns.

- Support emergency response, prioritize service needs based on customer impact and operational risk, and participate in after-hours and on-call coverage as required.

- Perform equipment audits, review completed repairs, investigate repeat failures, and implement corrective actions to improve fleet reliability.

- Enforce company safety policies, electrical safety practices, lockout/tagout procedures, personal protective equipment requirements, and job hazard assessments; stop work when unsafe conditions exist.

- Ensure accurate and timely completion of inspection forms, maintenance records, repair work orders, time entries, service tickets, parts requests, commissioning records, load-bank reports, and equipment damage reports.

- Communicate equipment status and significant repair needs to Operations and Fleet Management.

- Provide technical support to Sales regarding equipment capabilities, generator applications, installation requirements, and field conditions. Sales retains responsibility for customer ownership and commercial terms.

- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications

- Strong experience in generator maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, startup, and temporary power applications.

- Previous supervisory or lead technician experience with the ability to direct, coach, and develop technical employees.

- Strong knowledge of diesel and natural-gas generators, temporary electrical distribution, automatic transfer switches, load banks, electrical protection, controls, and paralleling systems.

- Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, electrical diagrams, project specifications, and technical documentation.

- Ability to evaluate equipment condition, prioritize repairs, and coordinate multiple projects and service needs.

- Effective communication, organization, problem-solving, and customer-service skills.

- Ability to travel to customer locations and participate in overtime, after-hours emergency response, and on-call coverage as required.

Physical Requirements

- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and use hands to inspect and service equipment.

- Handle tools, cables, and equipment components using appropriate lifting methods and mechanical or team assistance when needed.

- Wear required personal protective equipment and safely perform assigned shop and field duties.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

- Understanding of voltage, amperage, kW, kVA, power factor, three-phase power, voltage drop, phase rotation, and generator loading principles.

- Ability to evaluate cable sizing, grounding, distribution configurations, and equipment compatibility for temporary power applications.

- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, including the ability to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.

- Awareness of hazards associated with electrical energy, arc flash, rotating equipment, hot surfaces, fuel, batteries, exhaust, noise, and temporary cabling.

- Ability to review service documentation for accuracy and maintain complete equipment records.

- Dependability, accountability, professionalism, and sound judgment under changing operational demands.
