Job Title: Quality Engineer Job Description
The Quality Engineer plays a key role in maintaining and improving aerospace quality systems, with a strong focus on ISO/AS9100 documentation and FAA 14 CFR Part 21 compliance. This position supports a dedicated business unit by driving customer flow-down initiatives, resolving product and manufacturing issues, and assisting production personnel to ensure that all processes meet stringent regulatory and customer requirements. The role involves direct interaction with customers and regulatory agencies, management of quality system data, and leadership in continuous improvement activities within a highly specialized aerospace environment.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and update ISO/AS9100 quality documentation and ensure ongoing compliance with FAA 14 CFR Part 21 requirements.
- Evaluate manufacturing processes to confirm they are performed correctly using appropriate tools, materials, and methods, and recommend improvements where necessary.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customers and regulatory agencies on quality-related matters, providing clear and timely communication.
- Coordinate and schedule on-site quality activities with customers, including audits, inspections, and reviews.
- Manage and maintain a large volume of quality system data, including operational performance metrics, quality records, and quality management system documents.
- Develop and sustain strong working relationships with key customers and regulatory contacts to support effective collaboration and issue resolution.
- Clearly communicate quality and regulatory requirements, define practical approaches, and work with cross-functional teams to reach compliant and workable solutions.
- Lead and manage product or manufacturing-related quality issues for specific product line items, including investigation, containment, and corrective actions.
- Support and conduct training for employees on quality systems, procedures, and best practices, ensuring understanding and adherence.
- Participate actively in continuous improvement events and other improvement programs to enhance quality performance and process efficiency.
- Apply structured problem-solving techniques, including root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action methodologies, to address quality concerns.
- Coordinate procedural initiatives related to quality systems, ensuring alignment with internal standards and external regulatory requirements.
- Manage multiple databases for quality records, ensuring accuracy, traceability, and easy retrieval of quality-related information.
- Demonstrate leadership by driving results, managing priorities, and supporting performance management initiatives within the quality function.
Essential Skills
- Bachelors degree in an engineering or technical discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in an FAA Part 145 environment.
- Minimum of 5 years of recent experience in a quality systems engineering discipline.
- Formal and current accreditation as an ISO/AS9100 lead auditor.
- Strong competence in electro-mechanical assemblies and related quality considerations.
- Proven experience with aerospace quality systems and standards, including AS9100 and FAA quality standards.
- Hands-on experience with FAA Part 21 quality system documentation and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency with quality tools such as 8D, 5 Why analysis, First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR), root cause failure analysis, and Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA).
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to influence and guide cross-functional teams.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities with a results-driven mindset.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate requirements and solutions to customers, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders.
- Effective time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks in a dynamic environment.
- High level of technical capacity and understanding of manufacturing processes and quality systems.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, especially in documentation and data management.
- Ability to manage multiple databases for quality records and maintain accurate, up-to-date information.
- Ability to conduct training sessions and effectively transfer knowledge to employees.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Well-rounded background in manufacturing-related quality systems, particularly within aerospace or similar highly regulated industries.
- Experience working within aerospace quality systems and familiarity with industry-specific requirements and practices.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate procedural initiatives and drive process improvements across departments.
- Comfort working closely with customers and regulatory representatives to address quality concerns and ensure compliance.
- Track record of being detail-oriented and following all processes and procedures required to support repair and overhaul activities and airworthiness certification or recertification.
- Alignment with core values such as being motivated, eager to learn, collaborative, and humble in approach.
- Experience supporting or leading continuous improvement events and other structured improvement programs.
Work Environment
This role operates in both office and manufacturing settings within an aerospace-focused environment. The Quality Engineer spends significant time in an FAA repair station and quality laboratories, including metrology labs, working closely with production, engineering, and quality teams. The position is 100% onsite, providing direct access to manufacturing processes, test equipment, and quality systems. The organization designs, tests, and manufactures safety restraint and aircraft airbag systems in a single location, combining the agility and close-knit culture of a small company with the resources and stability of a larger international owner. This is a Permanent position based out of Phoenix, AZ.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $120000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. 401K
