This is a part-time position offering up to 20 hours per week, with a minimum availability of two days per week, including weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings. Job Title: Guest Services Assistant – Part-time

Department: Guest Services

Reports To: Guest & Member Services Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt. (Up to 20 hours per week)

Starting Salary: $17.52 per hour (initial step). Position is covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Summary

The Guest Services Assistant provides outstanding service and plays an integral role in contributing to the mission of the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. This role primarily assists with entry into the Museum, entry into Stingray Touch, and entry into Packrat Playhouse. The position is flexible and accommodates ever-changing business needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

- Creates outstanding guest interactions with a guest friendly, professional demeanor.

- Processes sales transactions including admission, membership, donations, and other miscellaneous items.

- Follows Museum and department cash handling and reconciliation procedures.

- Uses upsell techniques to increase membership, paid experience sales, and donations.

- Assists guests with stroller and mobility device rentals.

- Participates in service recovery.

- Assists guests with lost or found items

- May assist other departments with clerical duties as assigned.

- Answers a variety of in-person and telephonic queries including wayfinding, schedules, facilities, collections, etc.

- Is part of the Museums primary telephone operation team

- Access control including ticket and membership scanning, and event entry operations.

- Promotes a safe and sanitary work environment at all times. Practices safe work habits, participates in sanitation procedures, and reports hazards

- Maintains a safe environment in the Packrat Playhouse, identifying safety risks and controlling building capacities.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and six months to one-year related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively communicate with the general public using guest friendly language. English is the primary language used for communication in this department, though Spanish is also common.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with challenges involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

General knowledge of CRM systems or the ability to learn and develop functional use of systems. This includes but is not limited to: Microsoft Teams, email, and POS software

Other Skills, Abilities, and Requirements

- Flexible and adaptable to changing working conditions, schedules, environments, and duties, both day-to-day and seasonally

- Ability to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings.

- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions and walk uneven pathways

- Ability to work at least 2 days a week, but no more than 20 hours a week

Primarily a small office space in close proximity to others. Consistently staffing an indoor play area with dim lighting and constant noise. Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions; occasional exposure to extreme weather conditions. Noise levels range from moderate to loud. Workday may consist of constant movement, a change of job location or position, or remaining in one area, depending on operational needs.
