Job Title: CMM Programmer Job Description
This role focuses on programming coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) and performing precise inspections of machined and welded metal components to ensure they meet engineering specifications and quality standards. You will work closely with Engineering and Production teams to identify and resolve manufacturing issues, maintain accurate quality records, and support continuous improvement in production quality.
Responsibilities
- Program coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) to inspect various sizes of machined and welded metal components in accordance with engineering specifications.
- Perform dimensional inspections, including first piece, in-process, and last piece inspections, on machined parts and weldments.
- Use gauges, calipers, micrometers, and other specialized measuring equipment to verify dimensions and tolerances.
- Inspect semi-finished and finished goods to evaluate production quality and ensure conformance to drawings and specifications.
- Identify, assess, and document defects and nonconformances in products, and communicate findings to relevant stakeholders.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Production teams to investigate, identify, and resolve the root causes of manufacturing and quality issues.
- Interpret complex engineering blueprints, GD&T callouts, and welding symbols to determine inspection requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Maintain accurate and complete quality records by filling out required forms, reports, logs, and compliance documentation.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by providing feedback on recurring issues and recommending process or inspection enhancements.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on CMM programming experience.
- Proficiency in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y14.5 standards.
- Ability to interpret complex engineering blueprints and welding symbols.
- Experience inspecting machined parts, fabricated welded assemblies, and sheet metal parts, with at least three years of related experience.
- Skilled in using precision measuring tools such as gauges, calipers, micrometers, and other specialized metrology equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in dimensional inspection and documentation.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with Engineering and Production teams to troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing issues.
- Strong documentation skills for completing quality forms, reports, logs, and compliance records.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with PC-DMIS CMM software is highly preferred.
- Experience using Hexagon arms or Zeiss CMM systems is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with inspecting a variety of metal components, including machined parts, welded fabrications, and sheet metal assemblies.
- Comfort working in a production or manufacturing environment with cross-functional teams.
- Continuous improvement mindset and willingness to support process enhancements.
Work Environment
This role operates in a production and manufacturing environment focused on machined parts, welded fabrications, and sheet metal components. You will regularly use coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), including systems running PC-DMIS software and potentially Hexagon arms or Zeiss CMM equipment, as well as precision measuring tools such as gauges, calipers, and micrometers. Work typically involves performing first piece, in-process, and final inspections in a shop or quality lab setting, collaborating closely with Engineering and Production personnel. The environment emphasizes accuracy, documentation, and adherence to engineering specifications and quality standards.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Belvidere, IL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
