What Our Kennel Technicians Do
- Feed, water, and monitor boarding, daycare, and hospitalized patients according to medical and boarding instructions
- Walk dogs and provide exercise and enrichment that keep patients happy and comfortable
- Watch for changes in appetite, attitude, behavior, mobility, or elimination habits and report concerns to the medical team right away
- Clean and sanitize kennels, cages, runs, treatment areas, and equipment
- Bathe patients as needed and prepare boarding pets for discharge, making sure every belonging goes home with them
- Help restrain patients for exams, treatments, and procedures, and assist technicians and veterinarians with handling and basic care
- Handle dogs, cats, and other companion animals of all sizes and temperaments using low-stress techniques
- Launder bedding, towels, and linens; stock hospital and kennel supplies; and dispose of waste and biohazard materials according to protocol
- Keep the whole facility clean, including exam rooms, treatment areas, isolation wards, break rooms, and public spaces
- Greet clients warmly at boarding drop-off and pick-up and share updates on their pets as directed
- Help with opening and closing duties and follow all OSHA, safety, sanitation, and infection-control protocols
What You’ll Bring
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- The ability to safely handle dogs, cats, and other companion animals
- The ability to lift, carry, and restrain animals up to 50 pounds on your own, and heavier animals with help
- Comfort bending, stooping, kneeling, standing, and walking for long periods, and working in varying temperatures, including outdoor walking areas
- Availability to work some weekends and most holidays
- Strong attention to detail, reliability, and a habit of taking ownership of your work
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills, plus good time management
- Compassion for animals and the people who love them
- Previous experience in a veterinary hospital, kennel, daycare, shelter, or boarding facility is preferred but not required
- Knowledge of animal behavior and restraint techniques is a plus
- An interest in growing a career in veterinary medicine or animal care is a bonus
