We have an exciting opportunity for a Quality Control Software Developer (Junior) to join our team in Calgary, Alberta. In this role, you will support the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of digital Quality Control tools and applications that enhance automation, traceability, reporting, and operational efficiency across the organization. Working closely with Quality, IT, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams, you will help build and improve software solutions that support CoolIT’s quality processes and digital transformation initiatives .

What You Will Do

Software Development & Maintenance

- Support the development and maintenance of Quality Control applications using technologies such as Python, Next.js, Power Apps, and related tools.
- Develop and enhance application features based on defined business and Quality requirements.
- Troubleshoot software issues and support the implementation of corrective improvements.
- Write clear, maintainable, and well-documented code following established development practices.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, version control, and application deployment activities.

QC Systems & Automation

- Support and maintain digital Quality platforms such as CheckIT, SolveIT, and the CoolIT Issue Tracker.
- Assist with the automation of inspection workflows and other manual Quality processes.
- Work with QC team members to understand operational needs and translate them into practical digital solutions.
- Support system testing and validation before new features or changes are released.
- Identify opportunities to improve system usability, efficiency, and data accuracy.

Cloud & System Integration

- Support cloud-based QC applications using Microsoft Azure and related services.
- Assist with APIs and integrations connecting Quality applications with databases and other company systems.
- Support troubleshooting of application and integration issues.
- Follow established IT, cybersecurity, and system development standards and requirements.

Data & Reporting

- Develop and maintain SQL queries, datasets, and basic data models used by Quality applications and reports.
- Support Power BI dashboards and other reporting tools used to monitor Quality performance.
- Assist with maintaining accurate and reliable data across QC systems.
- Support the development of automated reports and data visualization solutions.

Cross-Functional Support

- Collaborate with Quality, IT, Engineering, Manufacturing, and other teams to support digital improvement initiatives.
- Gather and document requirements from internal users.
- Participate in testing, implementation, and continuous improvement activities.
- Provide user support and documentation for QC digital tools.
- Communicate technical issues and proposed solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

System Documentation & Compliance

- Maintain technical documentation, user guides, and system change records.
- Follow established version control and software development practices.
- Support data traceability and audit readiness within Quality systems.
- Follow company IT, cybersecurity, and data governance requirements.

Position Details

- Location: Calgary, Alberta
- Hybrid work arrangement in accordance with CoolIT company policy.

Minimum Qualifications

- The position requires a Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Analysis and Development, Data Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 0-2 years of software development, automation, systems, or data-related experience.
- Relevant co-op, internship, academic, or project experience will be considered.
- Working knowledge of Python and/or JavaScript.
- Basic understanding of web application development and modern development frameworks.
- Foundational knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
- Familiarity with Git or other version control tools.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and operational teams.

Preferred Qualifications

- Exposure to Microsoft Azure or other cloud platforms.
- Experience or familiarity with Next.js, Power Apps, Power BI, or similar technologies.
- Exposure to APIs and system integrations.
- Previous experience, internship, or project work completed in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Familiarity with ERP, MES, Quality Management Systems, or other enterprise software applications.
- An understanding of manufacturing quality concepts, traceability, or ISO 9001 requirements.
- Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and modern software development practices.
- An interest in automation, data analytics, AI/ML, and digital transformation initiatives.
