About this role
Come join Intuit as a Staff Design Researcher on the Identity XD team. Identity is where nearly every Intuit customer relationship begins and where it is protected over time. Our team designs how people create and access their Intuit Account, prove who they are, manage their profile and security settings, and invite and manage other people across their business accounts. These experiences span TurboTax, QuickBooks, Credit Karma, and Mailchimp. Getting them right means customers reach the product they came for quickly, feel confident their account is theirs alone, and stay with us as their needs grow, which shows up directly in conversion, retention, and trust.
At Intuit, we're intentionally building AI into how we design, prototype, and ship — and we're committed to equipping our teams to work at the forefront of it. We look for designers who are excited to bring AI into their workflow — using it to move faster, explore further, and save their energy for the decisions that only human judgment and creativity can make. We're looking for designers who are curious, eager to experiment, and excited to continually evolve how they work.
This is the dedicated research role for Identity, reporting to the Group Product Design Manager. You will support the full Identity portfolio, prioritizing with us where to go deep and leading that work yourself. Some examples of the work include understanding how identity should work when our experiences are embedded in third-party AI assistants, how account management scales for larger and more complex businesses, and where customers drop out of authentication funnels. Research is a muscle the whole team uses, and we need an expert in the room to guide how we do it and to raise everyone's bar. Design and product management partner with research to shape the questions and apply what we learn, a data scientist works alongside you on the quant side, and you will have a wider design research community across Intuit to connect with. There is a strong research foundation here to build on, and how research grows in Identity from here is something you will shape.
We are looking for someone with real curiosity about how people navigate moments of trust and verification, who holds a high bar for rigor while moving at product speed, and who can bring the customer into the room when security, regulatory, and growth goals all have a seat at the table.
Responsibilities
- Set the research agenda for Identity: Spot the highest-value questions across the portfolio and prioritize them against business need, capacity, and timing. Bring a clear point of view to roadmap and planning conversations, grounded in what the evidence supports. Advocate with courage for customers, partners, and the business, in a way that brings people with you.
- Lead research across the portfolio: Design multi-study programs that give us durable answers across customer segments, products, and surfaces. Take novel approaches to problems where established methods don't fit, and explain the tradeoffs to partners who are not researchers. Run end-to-end qualitative and quantitative research, including generative interviews, contextual inquiry, concept and usability evaluation, diary studies, surveys, and analysis of behavioral and funnel data. Apply sound sampling, statistical, and experimental design practice so findings carry weight in the decisions that follow. Use AI tools to accelerate recruiting, analysis, and synthesis, with a clear point of view on where they add value and where human judgment keeps the work honest.
- Turn evidence into decisions: Triangulate interview data, survey results, product analytics, support and risk signals, and external research into one clear picture of the opportunity. Build frameworks, journey models, and segmentations that teams keep using after the readout is over. Tailor how you present findings to the audience, from a working session with designers to a five-minute leadership conversation, and make the recommendation clear enough to act on. Connect insight to the outcomes teams are measured on, including sign-up and sign-in completion, successful account recovery, self-service rates, account security, and customer trust.
- Raise the bar for research across the team: Coach designers, content designers, and product managers running their own light-touch studies, so they get sound answers and know how far to take them. Set practical guardrails for how the wider team uses AI in research, and share what good looks like. Build and maintain a body of Identity knowledge that new team members and partner teams can draw on. Stay connected to the wider design research community at Intuit, and bring what's useful back to Identity.
- Design experiences that make AI-powered features intuitive, transparent, and trustworthy for a diverse range of users
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Anthropology, Cognitive Science, or another relevant field, or equivalent work experience. A graduate degree in a research-focused field is common at this level, and equivalent applied research experience is valued just as highly.
- Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools into your design workflow to improve quality, speed, or exploration
- 7+ years leading research in a professional environment, preferably at a technology company or consultancy, including experience owning research across a complex domain with multiple teams and competing priorities.
- Experience in identity, security, trust and safety, or financial technology, or a comparable domain where customer experience, security, and regulatory requirements all shape the solution.
- Depth across mixed methods, including generative research, evaluative studies, surveys, and analysis of behavioral data, with a track record of picking the right method for the decision and standing behind it.
- A portfolio of work that changed product direction and produced measurable customer and business results.
- Proven ability to run research for several teams well at the same time, and to coach non-researchers through their own light-touch studies.
- Strong storytelling and communication skills, with the ability to make findings land with senior and cross-functional audiences and drive action.
- A talent for bringing clarity to open-ended, technically complex problem spaces, and comfort working closely with engineering, data science, and risk partners.
- Familiarity with authentication and account security concepts such as MFA, passkeys, SSO, OAuth, permissions models, and identity verification is a plus.
- Experience researching both consumer and business or enterprise audiences, and with international or accessibility research, is a plus.
