Job Title: Electrical Designer Job Description The Electrical Designer is responsible for the conceptual design, detailed development, and documentation of electrical systems for a variety of building projects. This role includes preparing construction documents, performing engineering calculations and studies, and supporting construction administration activities to ensure that electrical systems are safe, efficient, and aligned with project requirements. Responsibilities
- Perform electrical engineering and design tasks for assigned projects, including research, engineering calculations, and preparation of technical studies, design documents, and construction documents.
- Develop building power distribution and electrical system designs for higher education, healthcare, municipal, industrial, and other facility types.
- Coordinate electrical system design with other engineering and architectural disciplines to ensure integrated and cohesive project solutions.
- Select appropriate electrical equipment and systems that meet project specifications, performance requirements, and applicable codes and standards.
- Prepare detailed electrical drawings and documentation using Revit and AutoCAD, including layouts, schematics, and drafting support.
- Support construction administration activities, including reviewing submittals, responding to Requests for Information (RFIs), and participating in construction progress meetings.
- Observe construction progress in the field and prepare clear and accurate field reports and punch lists to document issues and ensure quality completion.
- Collaborate closely with project managers and lead electrical engineers to deliver high-quality, client-focused engineering solutions.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, team members, manufacturers, and contractors throughout all phases of the project.
- Actively contribute to a collaborative team environment, wearing multiple hats as needed in a smaller firm setting.
- Pursue continual learning and development of expertise in consulting electrical engineering, including participation in continuing education and industry credential opportunities.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working as an electrical project engineer or electrical designer in the consulting engineering industry.
- Strong proficiency in Revit for electrical design and documentation.
- Hands-on experience with electrical design for building power distribution and related systems.
- Working knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices applied to building systems.
- Ability to prepare and interpret electrical design and construction documents with attention to detail.
- Capability to coordinate effectively with other engineering and architectural disciplines.
- Clear and professional verbal and written communication skills for interaction with clients, internal teams, manufacturers, and contractors.
- Self-motivated mindset with the ability to take initiative and manage assigned tasks independently.
- Collaborative approach focused on client satisfaction, project quality, and performance.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) is preferred.
- Open to experienced electrical designers with 4 or more years of relevant consulting experience in lieu of a BSEE.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) credential is preferred.
- Experience using AutoCAD for electrical drafting and design is beneficial.
- Experience in drafting and detailed design of building electrical systems.
- Interest in assuming project management responsibilities as experience grows, with potential to join at a project management level for highly experienced candidates.
- Strong desire to continually learn, pursue continuing education, and obtain relevant industry credentials.
- Ability to thrive in a smaller firm environment where team members often take on multiple responsibilities.
Work Environment The role is based in a downtown office within an open, collaborative workspace that features cubicles and private offices. The team operates in a highly interactive environment where coordination and communication are central to project success. Work is performed on first shift hours, with an initial schedule of approximately 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and the option to transition to a flexible schedule, with many employees choosing a 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. workday. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $46.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
