Job Description
Basic Purpose
Under the supervision of the Peer Assistance Program Coordinator, the Case Manager is responsible for monitoring participants in the Peer Assistance Program for compliance with individual contracts and applicable Program requirements; identifying and responding to compliance and noncompliance issues; serving as a resource regarding substance use and professional monitoring as they relate to nursing practice; and assisting in the administration and continued development of the Peer Assistance Program. Responsibilities are performed in accordance with applicable laws, rules, and Program requirements and agency policies and procedures.
Typical Functions
The functions within this job family will vary by level, but may include the following:
- Monitors participant compliance with Program contracts, amendments, guidelines, supervised practice agreements, drug testing and medication requirements, and other applicable Program requirements. Reviews reports and other documentation and consults with participants, providers, employers, and other authorized parties as indicated. Identifies compliance and noncompliance issues and takes appropriate action in accordance with Program requirements.
- Facilitates entry into the Peer Assistance Program in accordance with applicable laws, rules, Program guidelines, and established procedures. Conducts entry interviews; reviews intake documentation, evaluation reports, and other relevant information; obtains additional information as permitted and necessary; and prepares and presents relevant information to the Peer Assistance Committee for consideration and determination. Documents Committee decisions and prepares Program contracts.
- Prepares and presents participant matters to the Peer Assistance Committee, including requests for contract changes, progression, and compliance or noncompliance issues. Schedules participants for review and prepares supporting case information and documentation for consideration; documents Committee rationale, decisions, and actions as the official case-level record; and prepares amendments and other documentation necessary to memorialize and implement Committee determinations.
- Maintains accurate, complete, organized, and confidential participant case records and documentation in accordance with applicable laws, rules, Program requirements, and agency policies and procedures. Documents relevant interactions, monitoring activities, and case information and identifies matters requiring follow-up or further action.
- Collaborates with the Program Coordinator regarding participant monitoring, case management, and Program operations; prepares reports and other Program information as requested; provides testimony at Board hearings as necessary; and participates in relevant professional development activities
- Participates in ongoing Program development and quality improvement through data collection and interpretation, development and revision of Program policies, procedures, and guidelines, and identification of opportunities to improve Program operations. Participates in educational and outreach activities related to the Peer Assistance Program as assigned.
- Participates in training programs; studies professional materials relating to nursing, addictions and monitoring of professionals.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of applicable laws and rules pertaining to nursing practice; principles of case management and professional monitoring; and substance use and recovery concepts as they relate to nursing practice. Ability to demonstrate honesty and candor, analyze information, exercise sound professional judgement, remain objective, and communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally, both orally and in writing. Ability to organize and prioritize a complex caseload, manage competing responsibilities and deadlines, work independently within established authority, maintain confidentiality, and effectively use electronic information systems and software applications.
License, Education and Experie nce
Requirements consist of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; current, unencumbered Oklahoma Registered Nursing license or current, unencumbered professional licensure in another health or behavioral health profession; and relevant professional experience of at least 5 years in case management, regulatory compliance, professional monitoring, behavioral health, substance use, or closely related field; Current Oklahoma driver’s license.
