About this role
Job Description
Reuters Imagen is the cloud-native media asset management platform used by the world's largest sports organisations, broadcasters and news providers to manage, enrich and distribute large-scale, mission-critical video. Our customers include the Premier League, the International Olympic Committee, the NHL, the PGA Tour, ITN and The Independent, and our platform underpins Reuters Connect, the marketplace through which Reuters and its content partners deliver news video to thousands of media organisations worldwide.
The Reuters Imagen DevOps team deploys, operates and extends those customer platforms. We work across AWS and Azure, automate everything we reasonably can, and build the bespoke integrations that connect each customer's platform to the systems and partners around it. We are the people who get a new content partner from "we've agreed a deal" to "their video is live on Reuters Connect".
Key Responsibilities:
- Learn to deploy, configure, troubleshoot and maintain Imagen platform installations across multiple cloud environments, and become confident diagnosing issues across the full stack — application, database, storage, network and infrastructure.
- Onboard new Reuters content partners onto our platforms: configuring ingest pipelines, writing and testing XSLT mappings that transform partner metadata into the format Imagen ingests, and validating that content reaches Reuters Connect correctly.
- Integrate customer Imagen systems with Reuters Connect, following an established procedure covering platform configuration, API credentials, storage, workflows and delivery profiles.
- Maintain and extend infrastructure as code in Terraform, and the CI/CD pipelines that deploy our serverless ingest functions.
- Build the bespoke automation that surrounds a customer platform: watch folders and event-driven ingest pipelines, integrations against customer and third-party APIs, and scripts in Python and PowerShell that automate work which would otherwise be manual.
- Investigate failed ingests and platform incidents using logs, metrics and API responses, resolve them, and feed the fix back into code or documentation so it does not recur.
- Plan and run media migrations, moving large archives and their metadata between platforms and storage providers, and support the decommissioning of legacy systems.
- Document what you build and what you learn, on our internal wiki and in the repositories you work in.
- Work directly with Reuters content partner managers and internal stakeholders to understand requests, agree what is needed, and keep them informed
Required Qualifications:
This is a junior role. We expect you to have some hands-on exposure to the areas below, not deep expertise in all of them — through a placement, an apprenticeship, a first technical role, a degree, or serious self-taught projects. Curiosity and a methodical approach to problems matter more to us than a complete checklist.
- Working knowledge of at least one major public cloud (AWS or Azure) and a genuine interest in learning the other. We use both regularly, and dabble in others.
- Scripting ability in PowerShell and/or Python, and the willingness to become comfortable in both.
- Familiarity with SQL and relational databases (we use MySQL/MariaDB), enough to read and write queries against a live system.
- Version control with Git, and an understanding of branching and pull request review.
- Comfortable working with structured data formats — XML, JSON — and calling REST APIs.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the discipline to isolate a problem rather than guess at it.
- Clear written and verbal communication, including with non-technical stakeholders, and the confidence to ask questions early.
- Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage several pieces of work and keep people updated on progress.
Preferred Qualifications:
Any of the following would be an advantage, and everything here is something you will learn with us if you do not have it already:
- Infrastructure as code, ideally Terraform.
- CI/CD pipelines, ideally GitHub Actions.
- XSLT and XPath, or experience transforming data between schemas.
- Windows Server administration, IIS, and Linux fundamentals.
- Core AWS services: EC2, S3, Lambda, SQS, IAM, Secrets Manager, CloudWatch.
- Networking fundamentals: DNS, TLS and certificates, firewalls, VPNs, load balancing.
- Containers and orchestration (Kubernetes/EKS/AKS).
- Web server configuration (Apache).
- Monitoring, alerting and log analysis.
- An interest in video and media technology — codecs, containers, transcoding and delivery formats. No prior media industry experience is required; we will teach you this side of the domain.
