Join one of Australia's most significant Defence programs and contribute to the design and development of critical deployable hardware capabilities. Working within the AIR6500 Platforms IPT, you will play a key role in developing hardware solutions that support the delivery of advanced Defence systems, from platform and cabin design through to cooling analysis, testing and hardware integration.
This is an opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to apply their expertise in design, analysis and testing while working alongside highly capable engineering teams. You'll enjoy challenging technical work, opportunities to mentor junior engineers, and the ability to make a meaningful contribution to a program that directly supports Australia's national security.
This opportunity is based in Mawson Lakes, SA.
Key responsibilities
As Mechanical Engineer, you will:
* Develop deployable and ruggedised hardware solutions for AIR6500 platforms and infrastructure.
* Design and analyse mechanical systems, including cabin layouts, packaging solutions and cooling systems.
* Conduct CFD and FEA analysis to support design decisions and system performance.
* Develop technical documentation, engineering artefacts and technical data packs.
* Contribute to technical reviews, trade studies and engineering assessments.
* Develop test plans, procedures and reports, including supporting environmental testing activities.
* Work closely with Integrated Product Teams, System Architects and Specialty Engineering groups to ensure successful delivery outcomes.
* Support configuration and product baseline management activities while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
* You'll be part of a collaborative engineering environment that values initiative, technical excellence and continuous learning, while providing the autonomy to manage your work and drive outcomes.
You'll work in a collaborative environment where you can have a genuine influence on how hardware is developed, secured and delivered across a major Defence program.
What you’ll bring
We're looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer with strong analytical capability, expertise in design and testing, and a passion for delivering innovative hardware solutions in a complex Defence environment.
You will bring:
* Degree qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, with approximately 5+ years' experience delivering mechanical or hardware engineering solutions in complex technical environments.
* Significant experience in CFD and/or FEA analysis, with familiarity in modelling and simulation techniques and their application to engineering design.
* Proficiency with ANSYS Fluent and/or ANSYS Mechanical.
* Experience coordinating and conducting testing activities, including environmental testing and validation.
* Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently, show initiative, manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes in a fast-paced project environment.
* Highly regarded: experience with configuration management principles and tools (such as EPDM), Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Defence or other regulated industries, and mentoring junior engineers.
* Proficient in AI prompting as it applies to this position and practice.
