General Description / Primary Purpose:
Responsible for psychological assessment, treatment planning, crisis intervention (including involuntary hospitalization and parental notification), counseling and psychotherapy for individuals and groups for a wide range of mental health concerns. Also, includes: training, consultation, clinical research, supervision, and outreach responsibilities.
Job Function
- Provide direct psychological support services to students, including assessment, individual and group counseling for a wide range of mental health concerns and symptoms that impact their goals, attitudes, behavior, relationships, academic, social and career success.
- Coordinate case management needs and facilitate students Connection to the support and/or treatment they may require (e.g. psychiatric evaluation and medication management, nutrition and other adjunctive therapies; academic support services and accommodations).
- Provide training and supervision to mental health graduate student interns completing requirements for a Master’s degree in a mental health discipline.
- Provide consultation, training and outreach/education regarding mental health issues that impact the campus community, including: Center programs and services, identification and referral of students in distress; preventive programs on issues that affect college students.
- Establish and maintain effective consultative relationships with other campus departments and organizations.
- Provide timely and effective crisis intervention to the campus community, including: after-hours on-call emergency coverage on a rotating basis; voluntary and involuntary hospitalization and parent notification.
- Collaborate with campus departments to implement emergency response procedures to ensure the safety of individuals and the university community.
Marginal Functions:
- Provide front desk coverage as needed.
- During declared campus emergencies, this position may be required to perform specific job related duties at a designated off campus location or place of residence.
Supervision Exercised:
- Oversight of clinical record-keeping; teaching clinical skills through the use of videotaping, didactic presentations and case consultations.
- Participate in other clinical training activities, including trainee selection, orientation, and evaluation.
Supervision Received:
- General supervision.
Required Qualifications
A Master's Degree or 6+ years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Licensure as a Mental Health Counselor, Clinical Social Worker, Psychologist, or Marriage and Family Therapist in the State of Florida required within two years of hire date.
Departmental Requirements:
- Advanced knowledge and training in assessment, diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders.
- Knowledge of the State of Florida Rules and Statutes.
- Must be certified as Qualified Supervisor in the State of Florida upon completion of requirements. If not licensed by date of hire, applicant will have 2 years to earn license which will include a $4000 annual salary increase upon earning license.
- Requires excellent interpersonal and written and oral communication skills; strong emphasis on providing superior customer service in conformance with the University's mission and values.
- Must be able to exercise independent judgment and discretion and maintain the highest standards of confidentiality.
- May be required to work evening and/or weekend hours for crisis response, appointments or special events.
