Join RIT's Recreation and Wellness team and play a key role in creating a vibrant, engaging, and healthy campus community. The Program Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and assessing a variety of recreation and wellness programs that support student engagement, wellbeing, and personal growth.
This position leads innovative initiatives designed to meet the diverse interests and needs of RIT students while fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment. The Program Coordinator supervises adjunct and student staff, evaluates program effectiveness, and ensures alignment with departmental, divisional, and university strategic priorities.
Working with a high degree of autonomy, the successful candidate will provide leadership in program planning, assessment, and collaboration across campus. This role partners closely with Recreation and Wellness, Student Health and Wellbeing, Student Affairs, and other university departments to enhance the student experience through meaningful recreational and wellness opportunities.

This position is primarily on campus. Flexible work arrangements may be available in accordance with university and department guidelines. Evening and weekend hours may be required to support programs and events.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Recreation & Leisure Management, Physical Education, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- One to three years of experience in recreation, wellness, or physical education programming
- Experience working in a higher education environment
- Conversational American Sign Language (ASL) skills

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Hires, trains, supervises, and mentors student staff to facilitate recreation programs and services
- Manages first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and other safety education programs for student staff, including developing curriculum and training materials
- Develops, implements, and manages a comprehensive risk management program, including certification requirements, routine audits, emergency action plans, and related documentation
- Monitors the university’s resident community to ensure safety and security. Responds to emergency or urgent situations and coordinates with campus security, emergency services, and university administration as needed
- Organizes recreational programs and opportunities that promote well-being and enhance student engagement
- Manages payroll, procurement, and monthly reconciliation of department statements
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Knowledge of safety standards, emergency procedures, and risk management strategies related to recreational programs
- Knowledge of recreational programs, trends, and best practices to meet community needs effectively
- Skill in communicating and fostering productive working relationships with student workers
- Skill in multi-tasking, project management, prioritization, and organization
- Ability to establish inclusive programming that meets the needs of diverse populations
Minimum Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in related field
- 1 years of relevant experience
- Equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered

In compliance with NYS's Pay Transparency Act, the salary range for this position is listed above.
