JOB TITLE: Trolley Maintenance Technician
DEPARTMENT: Trolley Maintenance
REPORTS TO: Trolley Maintenance Foreman
PAY RATE: $22.71/hour
JOB FUNCTION:
The Trolley Maintenance Technician performs work in servicing and cleaning rail cars and equipment, transit buildings, grounds, and related facilities equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Cleans the interior and exterior of rail cars by washing and steam cleaning using a variety of solvents, soaps, and cleaning chemicals.
- Checks the general condition of rail cars, reports defects, and replaces lighting as needed.
- Couples and uncouples cars and moves rail cars in the yard.
- Services pantographs, wheels, axles, connectors, and other parts of cars.
- Operates and services small trucks, trailers, lawn mowers, lawn edgers, trimmers, and other equipment.
- Maintains shop facilities and grounds, performing all related maintenance.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assumes additional responsibilities as required.
- Cleans and services shop equipment.
- Assists mechanics when needed.
- Makes deliveries and picks up materials using a MATA vehicle.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
High school diploma or GED required.
Other:
- Ability to operate cleaning and other equipment used in the cleaning of equipment, buildings, and grounds, such as a steam cleaner, buffer, forklift, etc.
- Previous experience with electrical equipment and electricity is a plus.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Must be able to read and understand directions given on work cards and orders; write legibly to complete orders and receive parts and supplies.
- Must be willing to work shift hours and days as assigned.
Environment:
- Extensive walking and standing; lifting a maximum of 50 pounds and lifting parts and materials overhead.
- Requires ability to withstand exposure to uncomfortable weather conditions, dust, engine fumes, toxic chemicals, extreme noise levels, and areas powered by high-voltage electricity.
- Must be able to climb on a ladder or other equipment to heights such as on the roof of buildings at the MATA facility.
- Must be able to crawl or stoop into tight areas and lie horizontally under a vehicle.
- Requires ability to hear directions given and visually perform essential functions for satisfactory job performance.
