The RN Clinic provides appropriate medical care and counseling to the patient in an appropriate manner. Provides support to the medical provider, provides delivery of care under stable and predictable conditions and within the framework of the patient care assignment.

Ideal Candidate Profile

A BSN-prepared Registered Nurse with experience in cardiology, critical care, emergency medicine, or an ambulatory clinic setting. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical judgment, exceptional patient care skills, proficiency in EMR documentation, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and professionalism.

Experience Qualifications

- Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience required; 3 to 5 years preferred.
- Experience in a physician practice, ambulatory clinic, Emergency Department (ED), Cardiology, or Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) setting preferred.

Education Qualifications

- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.

Licensure & Certifications

Required

- Active Registered Nurse (RN) License issued by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers, American Heart Association.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), American Heart Association.

Preferred/Additional Certifications

- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), American Heart Association.
- Non-Violent Crisis Prevention Certification.

Clinical Responsibilities

- Provide direct patient care in collaboration with physicians and the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
- Obtain, document, and report vital signs and abnormal findings.
- Assist with clinic operations, patient flow, and appointment coordination.
- Prepare patients for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
- Administer medications and vaccinations in accordance with established policies and provider orders.
- Perform non-complex clinical procedures, including dressing changes and specimen collection.
- Conduct point-of-care testing and ensure proper specimen handling and transport.
- Monitor and maintain medication inventory, storage requirements, and safety standards.
- Ensure equipment is prepared, tested, cleaned, and maintained according to organizational guidelines.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to medical emergencies.
- Identify and report potential abuse, neglect, safety concerns, or policy violations.

Documentation & Administrative Responsibilities

- Accurately document patient care, procedures, testing results, and quality control activities in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Maintain patient confidentiality and safeguard protected health information.
- Review laboratory, radiology, and medical records to support patient care.
- Update patient demographics and coordinate follow-up appointments.
- Complete incident and safety reports as required.
- Obtain and manage outside medical records and documentation.
- Operate office equipment, including computers, scanners, printers, and fax machines.
- Answer and route incoming calls appropriately.

Quality, Safety & Infection Prevention

- Adhere to all safety, infection prevention, regulatory, and quality improvement standards.
- Implement standard and transmission-based precautions.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized clinical environment.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, QAPI projects, and Environment of Care (EOC) rounds.
- Promote patient safety through compliance with established organizational policies and procedures.

Skills & Competencies

- Strong nursing and clinical assessment skills.
- Proficiency in vital sign monitoring, specimen collection, labeling, and transport.
- Experience with medication administration and vaccine management.
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR) proficiency.
- Strong computer and healthcare software skills.
- Working knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong patient service, guest relations, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to patient confidentiality.
