About this role

Job Title: Landscape Architect Job Description
The Landscape Architect will contribute to a wide range of landscape design and land development projects as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team. This role focuses on planning and design for commercial and private developments, municipalities, educational campuses, healthcare facilities, athletic complexes, streetscapes, and other site development projects. The Landscape Architect will participate in design production, site planning, public engagement, client interaction, and site analysis, helping to deliver thoughtful, technically sound, and visually compelling landscape solutions.
Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary design team to develop comprehensive design packages for landscape and land development projects.
- Create detailed design plans using CAD programs, including site layout, zoning, grading, drainage, and other site development elements.
- Prepare landscape plans, schematic designs, site plans, construction drawings, construction specifications, construction documents, and site analysis reports.
- Provide oversight of project sites and analyze site conditions related to drainage, grading, site layout, and zoning requirements.
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with internal design team members, engineers, client representatives, and public agencies throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support public engagement efforts by participating in meetings and presentations related to project design and development.
- Contribute to design production of technical drawings and specifications that address zoning, grading, site layout, drainage, and construction details.
- Help advance and grow the landscape architecture practice in the Grand Rapids, MI area through high-quality design work and strong client service.
Essential Skills
- Bachelors degree in Landscape Architecture or Civil Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in landscape design or civil design using CAD 3D programs (such as AutoCAD Civil 3D).
- Proven experience in landscape design for commercial development, municipal projects, and education or school facilities.
- Strong proficiency in preparing technical drawings and specifications related to zoning, grading, site layout, drainage, and construction details.
- Hands-on experience with site development and site design, including site plans and construction documents.
- Proficiency with CAD software and civil design tools, including AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary design team and coordinate with engineers and other stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills for interaction with design teams, client representatives, and public agencies.
- Ability to analyze and interpret site data and conditions, particularly regarding drainage, grading, and zoning.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience designing with GIS tools.
- Professional Landscape Architect (PLA) license.
- Certified Landscape Architect (CLA) license.
- Proficiency with Adobe InDesign for presentation and design documentation.
- Experience with streetscape, healthcare, and athletic facility landscape design.
- Familiarity with commercial and private land development processes.
- Strong attention to detail in construction drawings, construction specifications, and construction documents.
- Ability to participate in and support public engagement activities related to project design.
Work Environment
This position offers a hybrid work schedule, with 23 days per week in the office and the remaining time working remotely. Occasional travel to the Lansing location is required to collaborate with the broader landscape team, which is primarily based there. The role involves working with CAD and civil design software, GIS tools, and Adobe InDesign in a professional office setting focused on multidisciplinary collaboration. The environment encourages leadership and growth within the landscape architecture practice in the Grand Rapids, MI area, with opportunities to engage directly with clients, engineers, and public agencies on a variety of project types.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $42.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
