Job Title: Inpatient Pharmacist (2nd Shift) Job Description The inpatient pharmacist oversees all aspects of central drug distribution operations during assigned shift hours in an acute care hospital setting. This role focuses on sterile compounding, oral liquid repackaging, and unit dose dispensing, while ensuring accurate and clinically appropriate medication therapy through comprehensive Epic order verification. The pharmacist coordinates timely medication delivery to nursing units, provides clear direction and support to pharmacy technicians, and maintains professional communication at all times. Success in this position requires strong multitasking abilities, attention to detail, and adherence to regulatory standards and departmental policies. Responsibilities

- Oversee central drug distribution operations during assigned shift hours, ensuring safe, efficient, and accurate medication dispensing.
- Perform sterile compounding, including IV admixtures and chemotherapy preparations, in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Repackage oral liquids and manage oral unit dose dispensing using carousel systems to support patient-specific medication needs.
- Conduct comprehensive Epic medication order verification to ensure therapeutic appropriateness, accurate dosing, optimal dosage form, and correct route and rate of administration.
- Evaluate medication orders for potential drug interactions, allergies, therapeutic duplications, and other safety concerns, and resolve issues promptly.
- Coordinate timely medication delivery to nursing units and other patient care areas to support uninterrupted and optimal patient care.
- Provide oversight, guidance, and support to pharmacy technicians working in central pharmacy, storeroom, and cleanroom production areas.
- Maintain clear, professional, and courteous communication with prescribers, nurses, pharmacy staff, and other healthcare professionals, including adherence to appropriate phone etiquette.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory standards, including USP, in all compounding and handling processes.
- Demonstrate strong understanding of central pharmacy workflows related to Pyxis systems and patient-specific medication filling processes.
- Verify orders from central pharmacy dispensing carousels, storeroom carousels, and cleanroom production areas to maintain accuracy and safety.
- Communicate directly and promptly with prescribers or designated practitioners to clarify or modify medication orders in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
- Provide evidence-based pharmacotherapy recommendations and drug information to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support optimal patient outcomes.
- Document clinical interventions and relevant pharmacist activities in a timely and thorough manner using Epic Ivents.
- Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives and contribute to clinical and operational safety efforts within the pharmacy.
- Monitor drug therapy as appropriate for an inpatient/acute care environment, addressing medication-related problems and optimizing treatment plans.
- Support inventory management processes, including monitoring medication stock levels and ensuring availability of critical medications.
- Uphold all hospital, departmental, and professional standards of practice in inpatient pharmacy operations.

Essential Skills

- Active registered pharmacist license in the state of Illinois.
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree.
- Minimum of 1 year of work experience in an inpatient or acute care pharmacy setting.
- Demonstrated experience in inpatient pharmacy operations, including central drug distribution and patient-specific medication filling.
- Proficiency with sterile compounding, including IV admixtures and chemotherapy preparation, following applicable USP standards.
- Experience with monitoring drug therapy in an acute care environment and addressing medication-related issues.
- Ability to perform accurate and thorough Epic medication order verification for therapeutic appropriateness and safety.
- Strong multitasking skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously in a fast-paced setting.
- Clear and professional verbal and written communication skills, including appropriate phone etiquette.
- Knowledge of and adherence to regulatory standards, including USP
- Understanding of central pharmacy workflows and Pyxis systems for medication distribution.
- Attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation of clinical interventions in Epic Ivents.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) pharmacy residency experience in an inpatient or acute care setting is beneficial.
- Strong familiarity with Epic electronic health record and medication management workflows.
- Experience with carousel-based dispensing systems in central pharmacy operations.
- Comfort working with chemotherapy and other high-risk medications under appropriate safety protocols.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams, including physicians, nurses, and pharmacy technicians.
- Commitment to participating in departmental quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
- Solid organizational and time-management skills to prioritize tasks and meet operational deadlines.
- Adaptability and flexibility to work rotating weekends, holidays, and occasional schedule variations as needed by the department.

Work Environment This role is based in an inpatient hospital pharmacy on a campus in Oak Park, Illinois. The pharmacist works within central pharmacy, storeroom, and cleanroom production areas, utilizing technologies such as Epic, Pyxis systems, and carousel dispensing equipment to support medication distribution and patient care. The environment is fast-paced, highly collaborative, and focused on safety, accuracy, and adherence to regulatory standards, including USP .

- Two second-shift schedules are available: one consisting of five 8-hour shifts from approximately 12:30 PM to 9:00 PM with potential rotating weekends and holidays, and another consisting of five 8-hour shifts from approximately 12:30 PM to 10:00 PM with required weekends and holidays and occasional flexibility to work from 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM. The pharmacist works on-site in a clinical setting where professional attire appropriate for a hospital pharmacy is expected, and collaboration with nursing units and other hospital departments is routine.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $70.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
