About The Role

As a Per Diem Limited X-ray Tech/Medical Assistant in our X-Ray department, you will provide flexible, on‑call support to meet patient care and imaging needs during peak volumes, staff shortages, and special circumstances. In this dual role, you will perform limited diagnostic radiographic procedures within the scope of your license and provide hands-on medical assisting support, including patient preparation, clinical workflows, and basic administrative tasks. You will collaborate closely with radiologists, providers, and clinical staff to ensure safe, high-quality imaging and efficient patient flow. This hourly, per diem position is ideal for an experienced, detail-oriented professional who is comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment and is looking for a flexible schedule.

What You'll Do

- Perform limited-scope radiographic exams in accordance with state regulations, licensure, and departmental protocols
- Verify patient identity and exam orders, obtain clinical history, and ensure proper documentation prior to imaging
- Position patients safely and effectively for X-ray exams, utilizing appropriate shielding and radiation safety techniques
- Operate X-ray equipment, perform quality checks on images, and ensure images are available in the PACS/RIS systems
- Maintain strict adherence to radiation safety standards and infection prevention policies at all times
- Assist providers with examinations and minor in-office procedures as directed
- Obtain and document vital signs, patient histories, chief complaints, and other clinical information in the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Prepare exam rooms and equipment, ensuring cleanliness, organization, and readiness between patients
- Perform basic clinical tasks such as rooming patients, specimen collection and processing (e.g., urine, swabs), and point-of-care testing as allowed by policy and training
- Provide clear instructions and compassionate support to patients before, during, and after procedures or exams
- Handle administrative tasks such as scheduling, retrieving prior imaging reports, managing paperwork, and assisting with prior authorizations as needed
- Promote a safe environment by promptly reporting malfunctioning equipment, safety hazards, or variances in care
- Protect patient privacy and maintain confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies
- Collaborate with the X-Ray and clinical care teams to support efficient patient flow and meet same-day and add-on imaging needs
- Provide per diem coverage for vacations, sick calls, weekends, evenings, or holidays as requested and as available

Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum of 2 years of recent experience as a Limited X-ray Technician, Medical Assistant, or similar clinical role (preferably in an outpatient or ambulatory care setting)
- Current, valid state Limited X-ray Technician license/certification, in good standing, with authorization for the applicable body areas per organizational needs
- Formal Medical Assistant training (certificate or diploma) from an accredited program, or equivalent clinical experience as permitted by state regulations
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an accredited provider (e.g., AHA or equivalent), or ability to obtain prior to start date
- Demonstrated proficiency in performing limited radiologic procedures, including patient positioning, radiation safety, and image quality assessment
- Experience using electronic medical records (EMR) and radiology information systems (RIS/PACS) preferred
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, basic anatomy, and standard clinical workflows
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, adhere to protocols, and work independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally and compassionately with patients of all ages and backgrounds
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management skills in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and all regulatory and safety requirements
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, assist with patient positioning and transfers, and lift or move equipment and patients within role-appropriate limits
- Availability to work on an hourly, per diem basis, including flexibility for various shifts (days, evenings, weekends, and holidays) as needed
- English language proficiency (spoken and written) sufficient to communicate effectively with patients, staff, and providers and to document accurately in the medical record
