Controller
Long-Term | Growing Manufacturing Job Description The Controller oversees the day-to-day accounting operations of the business, ensures accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP, manages multi-entity consolidations, and leads a small accounting team. This role operates in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, ideally with experience in manufacturing, industrial, or distribution settings. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller plays a critical role in strategic initiatives, including ERP modernization and continuous process improvement, while providing leadership and structure to the accounting function in a growing organization. Responsibilities
- Lead all accounting operations, including management of the general ledger, month-end close, account reconciliations, and preparation of financial reports.
- Prepare and review consolidated financial statements for multiple entities and joint ventures, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and maintain strong internal controls across all accounting processes.
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes to deliver timely and reliable financial information.
- Partner closely with the CFO to support business planning, reporting, and financial analysis initiatives.
- Oversee inventory-related accounting activities within a manufacturing environment, including valuation and related financial reporting impacts.
- Coordinate external audits and assist with tax and banking relationships to support organizational compliance and financial stability.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, including the Accounting Manager, Accountant/AP personnel, and remote accounting support.
- Support the organizations transition from Microsoft Dynamics to Dynamics 365 Business Central, contributing to ERP modernization efforts.
- Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability within the accounting function.
- Operate with significant autonomy to lead the accounting function for a growing manufacturing business and take ownership of key initiatives such as consolidations, ERP conversion, and process improvements.
Essential Skills
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility.
- Proven experience preparing and managing consolidated financial statements across multiple entities.
- Experience with joint ventures and intercompany accounting, or a strong familiarity with these areas.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Experience in manufacturing, industrial, distribution, or other product-based environments.
- Understanding of inventory accounting and inventory valuation, particularly within a manufacturing context.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop accounting staff, including direct supervision of accounting personnel.
- Prior experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar leadership role.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial setting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience preparing and managing multi-entity financial consolidations.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics and/or Dynamics 365 Business Central.
- ERP implementation or system conversion experience, particularly related to Dynamics platforms.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of South Saint Paul, MN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $72.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
