The Associate Director, Private Markets Credit is responsible for the sourcing, underwriting, execution, and ongoing monitoring of private market credit investments, with a primary focus on investment-grade and crossover private placements. The role also supports commercial lending, infrastructure debt, project finance, structured investments, and other private credit opportunities. The successful candidate will provide independent credit analysis and recommendations while ensuring alignment with approved investment objectives, risk appetite, governance frameworks, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Source, evaluate, underwrite, and execute private market credit investments, with a primary focus on private placements across a broad range of industries and sectors.
- Conduct detailed credit analysis, financial modeling, due diligence, covenant analysis, and risk-return assessments for new and existing investments.
- Evaluate transaction structures, pricing, tenor, collateral, guarantees, covenant packages, and other credit risk mitigants.
- Prepare investment memoranda, credit approval packages, portfolio reviews, and committee materials, and present recommendations to appropriate governance forums.
- Support or exercise Delegated Lending Authority (DLA), where authorized, in accordance with applicable approval authorities, credit policies, governance frameworks, and risk appetite.
- Monitor borrower and portfolio performance through ongoing credit surveillance, annual reviews, covenant compliance, risk rating assessments, and sector analysis.
- Identify emerging risks, credit deterioration, concentration concerns, and policy exceptions, and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Evaluate commercial lending, infrastructure debt, project finance, and other private credit opportunities as part of the broader private markets portfolio.
- Collaborate with portfolio management, risk, legal, finance, operations, and external market participants to support transaction execution and portfolio management.
- Maintain effective relationships with issuers, placement agents, sponsors, lenders, advisors, and internal stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of experience in private placements, private credit, commercial lending, corporate banking, institutional asset management, or a related credit investing role.
- Demonstrated experience underwriting and executing complex credit transactions across multiple sectors and jurisdictions.
- Strong expertise in financial statement analysis, credit underwriting, financial modeling, covenant analysis, and transaction structuring.
- Experience with private placements, commercial lending, infrastructure debt, project finance, and other alternative credit investments.
- Strong written and verbal communication, analytical, stakeholder management, and decision-making skills.
- CFA, CPA, MBA, or other relevant professional designation is considered an asset.
Salary :
$80,000.00 - $175,000.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
