The Manager – Project Cost Controller is responsible for leading and managing project cost control activities across assigned engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning projects. The role ensures effective cost planning, budgeting, forecasting, financial monitoring and reporting to support the successful delivery of projects within approved budgets and contractual requirements.
The position works closely with Project Directors, Project Managers, Project Controls, Planning, Procurement, Subcontracts, Commercial, Engineering, Construction and Finance teams to provide accurate and timely cost information, identify financial risks and opportunities, and support informed management decision-making.
The role is expected to establish robust cost control processes, maintain reliable project cost forecasts, manage cost-related risks and changes, and drive continuous improvement in cost control performance in accordance with company policies and project requirements.
## Explore your tasks and responsibilities
#### A. Project Cost Management and Control
- Lead and oversee the cost control function for assigned projects, ensuring compliance with approved project budgets, company procedures and contractual requirements.
- Develop and maintain project control budgets, internal budgets, cost baselines and budget revisions in collaboration with Project Managers and relevant stakeholders.
- Monitor actual costs, committed costs, accruals, remaining commitments and forecast expenditures throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review cost performance against approved budgets, previous forecasts and project financial targets.
B. Cost Forecasting and Financial Reporting
- Lead the preparation and review of monthly project cost reports, management reports, cost dashboards and client-specific cost reports, as applicable.
- Oversee the preparation of Estimate at Completion (EAC), Estimate to Complete (ETC), cost-to-go forecasts and other relevant project financial projections.
- Analyse project cost performance and provide meaningful insights, recommendations and early warnings to Project Management and senior leadership.
- Coordinate the preparation and review of project cash flow forecasts, including short-term cash flow projections, such as 15-week forecasts where required.
C. Risk Management and Cost Optimisation
- Identify, assess and monitor project cost risks and opportunities in collaboration with Project Management, Planning, Commercial and other functional teams.
- Maintain and review cost-related risks, opportunities, contingency usage and mitigation actions.
- Assess the potential financial impact of schedule delays, productivity shortfalls, resource constraints, procurement issues and scope changes.
D. Project Controls Integration
- Work closely with the Planning and Scheduling team to ensure alignment between project progress, milestone dates, resource forecasts and cost forecasts.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning teams to obtain reliable cost inputs and validate forecast assumptions.
- Ensure manpower forecasts, resource utilisation and associated labour costs are appropriately incorporated into project cost reports.
E. Procurement, Subcontract and Financial Coordination
- Collaborate with Procurement and Subcontracts teams to review purchase orders, subcontract commitments, contract values and anticipated expenditures.
- Monitor committed costs against approved budgets and identify potential commitment overruns or unbudgeted liabilities.
- Verify cost allocations against the relevant WBS elements, work packages and cost codes.
F. Systems, Processes and Governance
- Ensure compliance with Exyte's applicable project controls procedures, financial policies, approval authorities and reporting standards.
- Oversee the use of project cost management systems and enterprise resource planning tools, including EcoSys, SAP and Microsoft Excel, where applicable.
- Maintain appropriate records for project budgets, forecasts, commitments, changes, risks and management approvals.
G. Team Leadership and Stakeholder Management
- Lead, supervise and develop the project cost control team, ensuring clear accountability, effective workload allocation and timely deliverables.
- Provide technical guidance, coaching and mentoring to Senior Cost Controllers, Cost Controllers and other relevant team members.
- Review the quality and accuracy of cost reports, forecasts, analyses and supporting documentation prepared by the team.
- Build effective working relationships with Project Directors, Project Managers, Project Controls, Commercial, Procurement, Finance and other stakeholders.

Education
- Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, Accounting or another relevant discipline.
- Professional qualifications in project management, cost engineering, quantity surveying or project controls will be an advantage.
Professional Experience
- Typically 10–15 years of relevant experience in project cost control, project controls or project commercial management, preferably within engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), EPCM, industrial construction or major capital projects.
- Demonstrated experience managing cost control activities for complex, multidisciplinary projects.
- Proven experience in project budgeting, cost forecasting, EAC preparation, cash flow management, cost variance analysis and financial reporting.
- Experience managing project cost teams and coordinating cost control activities across multiple functions.
- Strong understanding of procurement commitments, subcontract costs, change management, commercial risks and project financial performance.
- Experience in high-tech manufacturing facilities, semiconductor facilities, data centres, pharmaceutical facilities, cleanrooms or other complex industrial projects will be an advantage.
- Familiarity with multinational project environments and regional or global reporting requirements is desirable.
