Job Title: Electrical Designer Job Description
The Electrical Designer will design electrical systems for large commercial buildings, producing high-quality construction documents and technical deliverables. This role includes preparing reports, cost estimates, specifications, calculations, and equipment selections, while collaborating closely with architects and project stakeholders. The position offers the opportunity to work on a variety of building design projects using both AutoCAD and Revit, with flexibility to work fully remote.
Responsibilities
- Design electrical systems for large commercial buildings in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
- Prepare detailed reports, cost estimates, and technical specifications for electrical systems.
- Perform electrical calculations, including load calculations, to support design decisions and equipment sizing.
- Select appropriate electrical equipment and components for specification and integration into project designs.
- Develop complete, accurate construction documents for bidding and construction using AutoCAD and Revit.
- Create and maintain electrical design drawings, schematics, and layouts as part of the construction document set.
- Conduct site visits and surveys to gather field information, verify existing conditions, and support design development.
- Collaborate and interact with client representatives and architects to coordinate electrical designs with other disciplines.
- Manage project deadlines, prioritize tasks, and ensure deliverables meet quality standards and schedule requirements.
- Support the creation of construction documents for mechanical design as needed, working closely with multidisciplinary teams.
Essential Skills
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 310 years of relevant electrical design experience, preferably in building projects.
- Strong experience in electrical engineering and electrical design for building systems.
- Proficiency in Revit for electrical design and documentation.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD for developing construction documents.
- Experience creating electrical construction documents and technical drawings.
- Ability to perform electrical load calculations and related engineering analyses.
- Experience developing specifications, cost estimates, and reports for electrical systems.
- Fundamentals of Engineering (EIT) certification.
- Ability to work on building design projects and coordinate with architects and other disciplines.
- Strong organizational skills to manage project deadlines and multiple tasks.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with clients and design teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) background or progression toward licensure is beneficial.
- Experience with any type of building design projects, including commercial facilities, is a plus.
- Ability to conduct site surveys and document existing electrical and mechanical conditions.
- Comfort working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate construction documents.
Work Environment
This role offers the flexibility to work fully remote while supporting projects across multiple locations. The typical schedule follows standard daytime hours, such as 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with flexibility on specific work hours to accommodate project needs. You will work extensively with Revit and AutoCAD to create construction documents and perform design tasks, and you will occasionally conduct site surveys to verify existing conditions. The work environment emphasizes collaboration with architects and engineering colleagues, providing opportunities to contribute to a variety of building design projects while maintaining a balanced and flexible workday.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Washington, DC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $140000.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
