Job Title: QA Technician (Level I / Level II) Job Description
The QA Technician is responsible for auditing production activities, monitoring product quality, and ensuring compliance with food safety and quality standards in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role works closely with production, sanitation, and operations teams to identify quality concerns, verify process compliance, and support continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, quality-focused, and comfortable performing frequent inspections and documentation on the production floor.
Responsibilities
- Monitor production lines and perform routine quality checks to ensure products meet established specifications.
- Perform temperature checks, weight verification, size checks, grading, label reviews, package checks, color verification, and bone checks.
- Monitor and record HACCP temperatures during production and ensure documentation is accurate and complete.
- Enter production and quality data into company systems in a timely and precise manner.
- Identify, communicate, and escalate HACCP deviations, foreign material findings, and QA holds to leadership.
- Maintain good housekeeping practices and support a clean, organized, and compliant production environment.
- Support food safety and quality objectives throughout production by following established procedures and standards.
- Monitor multiple production lines simultaneously (Level II) and ensure consistent application of quality and food safety requirements.
- Perform thermometer calibrations to verify accuracy of temperature monitoring devices (Level II).
- Enforce Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) on the production floor and coach others on compliance expectations (Level II).
- Conduct allergen reviews and changeover inspections to verify proper cleaning and prevent cross-contact (Level II).
- Complete QA hold reports and foreign material documentation with thorough and accurate information (Level II).
- Monitor HACCP Critical Control Points (CCPs) and verify that controls are functioning as intended (Level II).
- Conduct pre-operational and operational sanitation inspections to confirm equipment and areas meet sanitation standards (Level II).
- Verify packaging weights, labels, seal integrity, and product appearance to meet regulatory and customer requirements (Level II).
- Generate damaged goods reports and document nonconforming product as required (Level II).
- Conduct Child Nutrition (CN) verification activities to ensure products meet CN labeling and formulation requirements (Level II).
- Operate fat/moisture analytical equipment and record test results accurately (Level II).
- Perform environmental and equipment sanitation swabbing and document results according to procedures (Level II).
- Monitor metal detectors and contamination prevention systems to ensure they function properly and respond to alarms (Level II).
- Assist with onboarding and training of new QA personnel by demonstrating procedures and reinforcing quality expectations (Level II).
Essential Skills
- Quality assurance experience or strong interest in quality-focused work in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to accurately monitor and record production and quality data.
- Experience performing inspections and quality checks in a manufacturing environment.
- Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety, sanitation, and quality procedures.
- Strong documentation and recordkeeping skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to identify, communicate, and escalate quality concerns, including HACCP-related issues and food safety risks.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Ability to read, write, and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic computer skills for data entry and electronic documentation.
- Basic math and arithmetic skills for measurements, weights, and calculations.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively on the production floor.
- Ability to accurately document quality observations and findings in required forms and systems.
- For QA Technician II: 6+ months of QA, food safety, manufacturing quality, laboratory, or regulated production experience.
- For QA Technician II: Prior exposure to HACCP and GMP requirements.
- For QA Technician II: Experience conducting inspections, audits, quality checks, or documentation reviews.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Previous food manufacturing experience.
- HACCP experience and familiarity with HACCP principles and documentation.
- GMP experience in a production or processing environment.
- Laboratory experience, particularly in food or related industries.
- Quality Assurance or Quality Control experience in a regulated environment.
- Previous food manufacturing quality experience preferred for QA Technician II.
- Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills.
Work Environment
This role is based in a fast-paced food manufacturing facility and requires frequent presence on the production floor. The schedule is Monday through Friday on a swing shift from 4:00 PM to 1:30 AM, with overtime possible based on operational needs. The position involves working around production equipment, cold or variable temperatures, and routine exposure to typical food processing conditions. The QA Technician regularly uses thermometers, scales, metal detectors, analytical instruments for fat and moisture testing, and computer systems for data entry and documentation. The role requires adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices and sanitation standards, including appropriate protective clothing and hygiene practices suitable for a food production environment.

This is a Permanent position based out of Woodburn, OR.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40560.00 - $42640.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
