## Summary of Job Duties:
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to start in August 2027. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment. The successful candidate will establish an independent, externally funded research program and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of expertise. Candidates in the broadly defined area of biochemistry/biophysics, including computational biochemistry/biophysics, are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have opportunities to collaborate with investigators in the University’s NIH-supported Arkansas Integrative Metabolic Research Center.

This is an in-person position. Most university classes are offered face-to-face, and extensive in-person engagement in such activities as office hours, student advising, and departmental, college, and university committee meetings is essential to advancing student success and departmental effectiveness.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

About the Department:
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is part of a thriving R1 research institution, offering a stimulating environment for interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation. Faculty balance research, teaching, and service with a typical teaching load of one course per semester. The department provides a collegial and supportive environment for faculty development. We have state-of-the-art facilities for modern chemical research, including advanced instrumentation for X-ray, NMR, mass spectrometry, materials characterization, and high-performance computing.

## Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

- Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Biochemistry or a related field from an accredited institution of higher education conferred by the date of initial appointment
- At least one year of postdoctoral experience
- Evidence of, or a demonstrated potential for, exceptional teaching and mentoring at the graduate level and/or undergraduate level
- Evidence of, or a demonstrated potential for, external research funding and/or scholarly/creative activity

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience in interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and/or cross-campus collaborations
- Significant experience in modern areas of biochemistry or related areas
- Strong record of successful publication and external funding in the thematic and/or methodological areas of the position focus
- Demonstrated ability to develop effective undergraduate and graduate classes that complement the current course catalog
- Experience in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in independent research
- Strong evidence of the ability to be an active, involved, and collegial member of a collaborative faculty team both on campus and in relevant national service organizations

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs):

- Current knowledge in the field of biochemistry or a related area that complements current strength of the department

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills

- Ability to develop externally funded research
