About this role

Job Summary

Do you take pride in keeping inventory accurate and operations moving smoothly? As an Inventory Control Specialist, you will maintain reliable product records, coordinate cycle counts, verify reserve inventory and support annual physical inventory activities. You will investigate discrepancies, audit orders, reconcile returns, process warehouse rework, assign nutritional value codes and coordinate kit audits. What success looks like in the first 6–12 months: inventory records remain current, differences are investigated and communicated promptly, returns and rework are processed accurately and dependable inventory information supports efficient order fulfillment.

A Day in the Life

The essential functions described below represent the primary responsibilities of this role and may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

Inventory Management:

- Coordinates and conducts regular cycle counts, reports accuracy and discrepancies, keeping records current and reducing stockouts.

- Assists with reserve cycle counts to verify inventory levels, prevent overstocking and guide responsible resource use.

- Investigates inventory discrepancies, including reports from other teams, to correct records and prevent financial loss.

- Prepares for and assists with annual physical inventory, confirming item quantities and identifying differences requiring escalation.

Order Fulfillment and Quality:

- Audits pulled orders for counting and labeling errors, preventing fulfillment disruptions and risks to operations or organizational reputation.

Partnership

- Works with the volunteer center to audit kits and cycle-count components, protecting kit accuracy and operational continuity.

- Works with the recovery team to ensure accuracy with re-work product specifications.

Data Management and Processing:

- Enters rework from multiple warehouse areas each day, keeping inventory records current and reducing avoidable purchases.

- Assigns nutritional value codes to items, ensuring product information is available for accurate handling and reporting.

- Processes physical and system returns, reconciling both records to reduce downtime, costs and inventory inaccuracies.

Required Qualifications

How you have spent your time:

- High school diploma or equivalent.

- Experience counting products, maintaining inventory records, entering data and identifying discrepancies in a warehouse, retail, distribution or related setting.

- Ability to perform basic arithmetic and compare physical counts with system records accurately.

- Ability to organize assigned work, meet established deadlines and communicate inventory differences clearly.

Other Requirements:

- Proficiency in common office applications, such as email, messaging, word processing and spreadsheets, and job-specific inventory systems.

- Valid drivers license with a driving record that meets organizational standards.

- Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies.

- Ability to complete a background check, motor vehicle record review, drug screening and physical assessment as required for the role.

- Ability to obtain forklift certification within the organizations required timeframe.

Preferred Qualifications

How you have spent your time:

- One year of experience in supply chain, warehousing, distribution or inventory control.

- Experience using an inventory management or warehouse management system.

- Exposure to cycle counting, physical inventory processes or order audits.

- Familiarity with product labeling, nutritional coding or return processing.

Physical & Environmental Expectations

This position performs physically demanding work in warehouse and operational environments, including operating forklifts, pallet jacks and other heavy equipment. The role occasionally moves objects exceeding 100 pounds, frequently moves objects weighing up to 50 pounds and constantly moves objects weighing up to 20 pounds, using mechanical aids when appropriate. Work may include elevated or confined spaces, background noise and extended periods of concentration while driving or operating equipment. Personal Protective Equipment must be worn when required. The position is frequently exposed to outdoor conditions, extreme temperature changes, dust, chemicals, gases, fumes, smoke, noise and vibrations. Work is generally performed in indoor or outdoor industrial environments. Regular travel is not required, although occasional trips may be necessary for meetings, training or assignments. Work hours may occasionally be adjusted to support operational priorities.
