The Carbon Measurement & Governance team's mission is to build a lasting, scalable and trusted ESG reporting infrastructure to satisfy regulatory requirements and stakeholders’ expectations. We translate external requirements into internal needs and build tools and mechanisms that enable Amazon businesses to meet their ESG reporting obligations and effectively manage their ESG opportunities and risks.
The Carbon Inventory Manager is responsible for continuous improvement of Amazon’s global carbon accounting and reporting program.
This role requires strong collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills to build support across the Amazon business units, drive data-driven decision making, and supports the company's ambitious sustainability goals.
Key job responsibilities
- Lead the continuous enhancement of Amazon’s centralized carbon inventory system to track, analyze, and report on the company's Scope 1, Scope 2, and relevant Scope 3 emissions.
- Establish and maintain a cross-functional coalition of stakeholders, including representatives from Amazon’s global business units, finance teams, internal technology/software teams, and other key departments, to ensure comprehensive data collection.
- Engage with department leads and subject matter experts to understand data sources, systems, and processes required for accurate greenhouse gas emissions (aka “carbon”) tracking and reporting.
- Prepare periodic carbon accounting reports, dashboards, and other communications to inform strategic decision-making and drive progress against sustainability goals.
- Serve as the internal carbon accounting subject matter expert, providing training and guidance to cross-functional teams on emissions data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
- Coordinate and manage external assurance engagements with third-party assurance providers including scoping, evidence gathering, walkthroughs, and remediation of findings to achieve assurance over sustainability disclosures.
- Build and maintain a centralized audit trail of evidence, methodologies, assumptions, and management judgments supporting sustainability disclosures, ensuring documentation is assurance-ready and defensible.
About the team
Basic Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in finance and accounting, corporate sustainability, environmental management, or carbon accounting
- Experience dissecting financial and operations data and identifying patterns that support business strategy experience
- Experience in sustainability reporting, assurance, or environmental data management
- Experience owning and driving large-scale cross-functional programs
- Strong understanding of carbon accounting frameworks (GHG Protocol, Scope 1/2/3)
Preferred Qualifications
- 6+ years of identifying incomplete or inaccurate data, identifying the root cause and creating/implementing an escalation plan experience
- 6+ years of identifying, leading, and executing opportunities to improve, automate, standardize or simplify finance or business tools and processes experience
- 4+ years of participating in continuous improvement projects in your team to scale and improve controllership with measurable results experience
- MBA or CPA
- Experience working with large-scale data mining and reporting tools (examples: SQL, MS Access, Essbase, Cognos) and other financial systems (examples: Oracle, SAP)

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
