About this role

We are seeking a motivated Assistant Project Manager to support commercial construction projects from preconstruction through completion and final closeout. This is an excellent opportunity for a construction professional with experience working for a commercial general contractor who is ready to take the next step toward a Project Manager role.

The successful candidate will work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, vendors, architects, engineers, and clients to coordinate project activities, maintain documentation, track schedules and costs, and resolve issues before they affect project execution.

Key Responsibilities

- Support the day-to-day management of commercial construction, renovation, tenant improvement, and related projects.
- Assist with project activities from preconstruction and procurement through construction, turnover, and closeout.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, architects, engineers, consultants, Superintendents, and field teams to keep project deliverables on track.
- Prepare, distribute, track, and close out RFIs, submittals, change orders, purchase orders, meeting minutes, and project correspondence.
- Review drawings, specifications, scopes of work, contracts, and other construction documents to identify discrepancies and coordination issues.
- Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules and tracking progress against milestones.
- Monitor project costs, commitments, purchase orders, invoices, change orders, and other financial information.
- Attend project, owner, subcontractor, and coordination meetings; document action items and follow up on outstanding tasks.
- Conduct jobsite visits to monitor progress, document field conditions, and coordinate with Superintendents and project teams.
- Assist with material procurement, delivery tracking, subcontractor scheduling, and site logistics.
- Support communication between field personnel, office teams, design professionals, subcontractors, and clients.
- Assist with inspections, punch lists, warranty items, turnover documentation, and final closeout.
- Identify and communicate potential schedule delays, cost concerns, scope issues, procurement challenges, and other project risks.
- Take on increasing responsibility for project coordination, subcontractor management, scheduling, and financial tracking while working toward a Project Manager position.

Requirements

- 2+ years of commercial construction experience in project management, project engineering, project coordination, or a related role.
- Required: Experience working for a commercial general contractor.
- Experience with commercial construction, renovation, tenant improvement, or similar projects.
- Working knowledge of construction documents, including plans, specifications, RFIs, submittals, schedules, contracts, and change orders.
- Understanding of commercial construction processes, sequencing, subcontractor coordination, procurement, and project documentation.
- Ability to communicate effectively with subcontractors, vendors, architects, engineers, Superintendents, clients, and internal teams.
- Experience tracking project schedules, costs, commitments, procurement, and change-order activity.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction or project management software.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, communication, follow-through, and time management.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent hands-on commercial construction experience will be considered.

Important: Commercial construction experience is required. Candidates with residential-only construction experience will not meet the requirements.
