About the role
Functioning as the First Line of Defence (FLOD) risk and internal controls subject matter expert within ATB Cormark Capital Markets (CCM), you will report directly to the Managing Director of Business Enablement and Risk Assurance (BERA). Your core responsibilities encompass leading the execution of risk identification, assessment, and recommendation of risk treatment strategies, thereby facilitating informed decision-making within CCM. You will proactively establish and nurture collaborative partnerships with CCM leaders and their respective teams, promoting a culture of risk management and managing complex issue escalations. Your ability to exert influence and cultivate trusted relationships across CCM and ATB Financial Risk Management is essential. You will analyze interdepartmental dependencies and work with leadership to develop innovative risk solutions, and utilize your strong listening and facilitation skills to challenge and refine initiatives. In addition, you will work with the Managing Director in achieving Capital Market’s strategic and operational goals by supporting the execution of comprehensive risk reporting for senior leadership.
Accountabilities
- Lead and execute the continuous improvement of risk management processes by executing risk identification, assessment, treatment, and monitoring activities, as well as collaborating with senior leadership and other stakeholders to ensure alignment with ATB’s strategy and risk appetite
- Support the maintenance and certification of the Risk and Control Self Assessment (RCSA) program
- Expert understanding of regulatory requirements related to Capital Markets, including interpretation of regulatory data and impact in order to deliver Regulatory Compliance Matrices (RCM)
- Facilitate discussions with internal partners to review and test internal controls (assurance reviews), identifying opportunities for remediation and improvement
- Facilitate and/or contribute to effective change management by applying risk governance to non-standard or structured transactions and new traded products, services, platforms and system deployments
- Liaise closely with Fixed Income, Currencies & Commodities (FICC), Capital Markets and second line of defense to provide active risk measurement, monitoring and mitigation action to ensure risk appetite adherence
- Contribute to the operational resilience of the organization by facilitating the maintenance of the Business Continuity Management (BCM) program, including the regular assessment of business impacts (BIA) and planning for continuity (BCP)
- Support risk governance on third party relationships through the execution of first line review and delivery of SOC (service/system organization controls) reports
- Establish reporting of strategic operating plan on key risk indicators (KRIs) and achievement to key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Lead the investigation of root cause analysis of operational risks and related events to capture insight and identify actionable mitigations to reduce impacts and prevent recurrence
- Execute all accountabilities and responsibilities of first line risk in accordance with applicable published risk frameworks
- Identify and analyze significant exposures and ensure that management is kept informed
- Support leadership in planning, oversight and delivery of risk reporting activities to senior leadership and ATB Financial
- Champion a culture of risk management by collaborating with stakeholders at all levels to drive continuous improvement.
- Act as a trusted partner, bridging the gap between risk teams and enterprise stakeholders by translating complex data into clear business narratives

Skills, experience & requirements
- 5+ years experience working in a Financial Institution with a focus on Capital Markets
- A graduate degree in Business Commerce, Economics, Mathematics or Law
- Financial Risk Manager Designation (FRM) from the Global Association of Risk Professionals would be considered an asset
- Strong knowledge of Canadian securities laws and Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO)
- Understanding of US regulatory regime, Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and the SEC
- Strong product knowledge across asset, liability, and contingent classes, including derivatives (FX, IR, Commodities)
- Understanding of risk measurements for both trading and non-trading portfolio
- Experience with interpreting and implementing regulatory guidelines and best practices
- Existing knowledge in capital markets products and derivative pricing
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills and excellent interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to lead and manage projects to deliver results in a rapidly changing environment.
Salary Range
$110,000 - $135,000 based on past skills & experience
