Companion / Personal Driver – Private Household
Location: Louisville, KY
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM, with weekend on-call availability
Compensation: $35–$50 per hour DOE, possible health stipend, and 2 weeks of PTO.
Position Type: Live-out, with the potential to transition to live-in as the relationship develops
Position Overview
A private household is seeking a dependable, compassionate, and experienced Companion/Personal Driver to support an 88-year-old gentleman who is experiencing progressive vision loss. The ideal candidate will have previous experience working with individuals with visual impairments and will be comfortable providing attentive, respectful support while helping him maintain his independence, daily routines, and active lifestyle.
This position is primarily driving-focused, with approximately 90% of responsibilities dedicated to transportation and companionship and 10% to household assistance. The gentleman maintains an active daily routine, including traveling to his office each weekday, attending appointments, and enjoying outings. The successful candidate will be a safe, confident driver who is patient, proactive, and comfortable anticipating needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide safe, reliable transportation to and from his office each weekday, medical appointments, errands, and social outings, using his personal vehicle.
- Offer daily companionship and thoughtful assistance as he navigates changes related to his vision.
- Demonstrate an understanding of vision loss and provide appropriate support while respecting his autonomy and independence.
- Assist with errands approximately two days per week, including Amazon returns, shopping, and other personal tasks.
- Provide general technology assistance as needed.
- Offer light household support when necessary.
- Coordinate smoothly with the existing household team, including the housekeeper, office assistant, and private chef.
- Maintain flexibility to accommodate occasional schedule changes and provide on-call availability on Saturdays and Sundays.
