- About the role:

This is an entry-to-mid level accounting role for someone who has a solid foundation in accounts and bookkeeping and is ready to build their management accounting experience within a fast-paced, multi-entity finance function. The Assistant Management Accountant works under the direction of a Management Accountant or Senior Accountant, taking responsibility for a defined set of transactional and analytical tasks that contribute directly to the monthly close and reporting cycle. The role is also ideal for someone who is embarking on or planning to start their professional qualification (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) and wants a role where they can put their learning into practice every day.

What you will be doing:

Month-end support

Assist in the preparation of month-end journals for your assigned area — including standard accruals, prepayments and reclassification entries — under the direction of the Management Accountant or Senior Accountant, ensuring all entries are correctly calculated and clearly evidenced.
- Gather and organise supporting data for month-end journals — including pulling reports from the ERP system, reconciling to source data and flagging any discrepancies to the Management Accountant.
- Maintain clear and well-organised working papers for all entries and reconciliations you prepare — ensuring your workings are easy to follow and review.
- Complete your assigned close tasks within the timetable — communicating promptly to the Management Accountant if you are at risk of missing a deadline or have encountered an issue you cannot resolve independently.

Balance sheet reconciliations

- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations for accounts assigned to you — ensuring all items are identified, clearly documented and any reconciling differences are promptly brought to the attention of the Management Accountant.
- Maintain supporting schedules and evidence for your balance sheet accounts — keeping working files tidy, clearly labelled and ready for review at any time.
- Follow up on outstanding items from prior month reconciliations — tracking progress, chasing relevant contacts and updating the reconciliation as items are resolved.

Reporting & analysis

- Produce straightforward reporting outputs for your assigned area — including data extracts, summary tables and simple variance analysis — to support the Management Accountant in preparing cost centre reports and management accounts schedules.
- Assist in populating sections of the management accounts pack under the guidance of the Management Accountant — ensuring data is accurately transcribed, clearly formatted and cross-referenced to source.
- Help investigate variance queries — pulling relevant transaction-level data from the ERP system and summarising findings clearly for the Management Accountant to review.

Ledger & transaction processing

- Process standard accounting entries within the ERP system as directed — including journals, corrections and routine postings — ensuring all transactions are correctly coded and approved before posting.
- Liaise with the Transactional Finance team on invoicing, cash allocation and purchase ledger matters relevant to your area — escalating unresolved issues to the Management Accountant.
- Monitor and maintain basic ledger hygiene within your area — flagging unposted items, unusual balances or missing entries to the Management Accountant promptly.

Audit & process support

- Assist in the preparation of audit schedules and supporting evidence for your assigned area — collating documentation, checking cross-references and ensuring files are well-organised ahead of audit review.
- Support the team in continuous improvement activities — helping to document processes, update procedure guides and identify manual steps that could be simplified or automated.

What we need from you:

We’re looking for people who are ready for a fast paced environment, get their kicks out of problem solving and can balance getting today's stuff done, whilst building for the future. We’re looking for people with drive and natural curiosity – who want to do things differently. And do them brilliantly.

Qualifications & Experience

- A finance/accounting qualification (AAT, HNC/HND in Accounting, or equivalent) is desirable; part-qualified CIMA/ACCA candidates are also welcome.
- Some practical experience in an accounts or bookkeeping role — including familiarity with journals, reconciliations and basic double-entry bookkeeping.
- Experience of working with an accounting or ERP system (Sage, Xero, SAP, QuickBooks or similar) is an advantage.
- Good numeracy and comfort with spreadsheets — confident using Excel for data manipulation, basic formulas and simple analysis.

Skills & Competencies

- Accurate and methodical — checks their own work carefully, follows processes consistently and takes pride in keeping their area of the ledger tidy and well-evidenced.
- Keen to learn — genuinely curious about how accounting works, actively seeks to understand the 'why' behind each task and takes on feedback positively.
- Well-organised — manages a list of close tasks reliably, meets deadlines and flags issues early rather than waiting until the last moment.
- A good communicator — asks clear questions, provides straightforward updates and works well alongside the rest of the accounting team.
- Motivated to build a career in accountancy — has a clear plan for their professional growth.

We will try our best to get back to you within a few days to let you know if we’d like to take you to the first stage. This normally involves a 20 minute chat with our Talent Team. If we both feel the connection, you’ll then go through another one or two stages, depending on the level of the role.
